Dental Issues I have pretty bad dental anxiety and a really strong gag reflex, sometimes I even gag when brushing my teeth lol. I need a full wisdom tooth extraction and one of my teeth are starting to hurt a little bit, are there any dentists that you guys would recommend that do sedation dentistry? I don't think I need full body anesthesia, maybe just some (or a lot) of nitrous so I can be completely calm and not gag at all. Also, generally how much does this stuff all cost? I have been covered by school and parental plans my whole life, and my work insurance will not kick in for a while so it'd be great if someone could give me some kind of ballpark too. Thanks! |
IMO, the best way to go about doing it is to get all 4 done at the same time, and take the full strength PTFO anesthesia for it. No gagging. No fuss. You just go to sleep for a bit and the good dentist will take care of it. You're gonna need someone to drive you home though. |
Make sure you smell your dentist's fingers after the anesthesia Just to make sure there wasn't any funny business :troll: |
best 15 minutes ever AND you get it done all at the same time. whytf would someone want to get the same procedure done 4 diff times and pay 4 times to get knocked out is beyond me. |
i did mine in 2 times, one side each time, it was pretty annoying going twice but at least this way i could still chew with the other side |
IMO suck it up, get it done at once and sip through a straw :lol why feel shitty twice if you don't have to? plus if you go in twice, you're paying for anesthesia twice. they said some people can't handle all that work at once so they offer splitting it up...i asked if i had to pay anesthesia twice they're like of course...I'm like :fuckthatshit: book 1 appointment, i'd rather suffer then my wallet :lawl: IIRC (mind you I did this like 15 years ago) it was something like $200-300 for sedation and then $150-300 per tooth depending on difficulty of extraction. i had to be referred to a specialist to do the work. |
I feel for you OP. I have a big phobia of injections and of the dentist (tied together, my teeth are soft as fuck = lots of cavities as a child). This last two weeks I've been dealing with lots of tooth pain. But I'm not so beat down to accept help yet. I'd need full general anesthesia. Knock me the fuck out so I don't wake up for a week |
literally they told me to count to 10, i'm like FU, i'm not going to get knocked out that easily... starting to count outloud....1,2,3,4,ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZ woke up 15 minutes later, all done |

As everyone already mentioned, full extraction of all of your wisdom teeth under IV sedation (not full-body GA) is the way to go. OP you can always call ahead for consultations to make sure they'll put you down. IIRC GLOW had a similar price structure to me (went to an oral surgeon): 300 for sedation, and 1400 for the 4 teeth. |
