As someone who has actually watched the original Ben Hur, I am really not sure how I should feel about this.

But damn... It's amazing how I remember the slave ship rowing scene and the horse race scene. Must have been 30+ years? :lawl:

10s of millions of dollars budget and they can't/dont come up with something original.....

Lomac 03-19-2016 05:28 PM

The original Ben Hur was a cinematic masterpiece. And, remember, it was all done with practical effects and a ton of extras. No CGI stunts or anything. It's one of the things I loved about that film.

This, though... seems like a completely needless remake.

SkinnyPupp 03-19-2016 06:56 PM

They literally took everything that made the original great, and did the exact opposite. And they are doing this AFTER the success of Fury Road. Fucking idiots

This is exactly what scares me about the success of Deadpool: studios will think all they need to do is make raunchy R-rated versions of other superheroes, and have a whole new formula for success, and we'll be treated to a whole fresh slew of super-reboots that utterly suck.

Okay, so after watching the trailer... I can only echo what SkinnyPupp said. It looks like they've pretty much turned the whole thing into a revenge tale. It's like they rehashed Gladiator without the soul.

So... given that I have never watched Ben Hur, should I watch the original, or wait for this to come out? :)

The standard budgeting for films the last while seems to be:

Actors & CGI = the whole budget
Writers & creative team = some change we found in the couch
