Groceries? - Where do you Shop
 

Wondering where fellow REVSCENER's prefer to do grocery shopping,
And monthly, how much do you spend on groceries alone
In this scenario " single living "/ 1person
I've been averaging 170$ /month, eating decent proteins and simple starches and vegetables..

I do most my shopping at Superstore, but wondering what places the general public prefer and why?

Superstore; generic, no name brands are still decent quality
But thinking about getting a Costco card

T&T because I'm Asian so convenience.

i live near donalds market so i go there for most things, but produce i go to LFM

$170 a month? I wish :(

4 people (myself, wife and two kids). Probably $1-1500 a month.

superstore - cheap single meals and junk foods
save on - meat, produce
tnt - asian flavors, special meats
buy low - quick meat stop
costco - bulk salads / steaks / party foods / house hold stuff
radio's butcher shop - prime rib nights

Safeway - Because it's convenient and there are plenty located where I live and work. Prices aren't that great, but convenience > price for small ticket items like coffee cream, milk, bread.

Costco - All the big ticket items (steaks, bulk pack meats, coffee, other household items)

"Langley farm" style produce shops - For all my fruits and veggies.

Costco - bulk items - canned drinks, olive oil, pasta sauce,etc
superstore - smaller/frequent items - milk, junk food
no frills - veggie/meat/etc that's on sale
consumer produce or chong lee - chinese veggies etc
safeway - 911 item or too lazy to go elsewhere
tnt - wife blowing money on junk food and misc stuff :okay:

Famous Foods on kingsway for meat.

Superstore everything else.

Damn $170 a month?!?

Costco- for bulk chicken breast, sauces, pasta, etc
Safeway- everything else since my gf and I live really close
kims market- tons of korean food since the gf is korean and I love korean food lol

does 170 a month include 3 meals a day for a week? how many are spent eating out? just curious. i'm tracking my spending on groceries and if that's nearly all your meals its pretty impressive

I eat the same meals however, some different variations

Cereal, Eggs & Toast for breakfast,
Club sandwich for afternoon and what not, I buy my own bulk deli meats, cheap loafs of bread, toast it and slice cheese ( I buy in bulk ),

Dinner, I eat plain rice, or cooked pastas with protein

I also work in culinary industry part time, my friend owns a restaurant so I eat some meals at work as well.

I don't eat lavishly, just basic and simple maybe why my bill is some what reduced.
And I rarely eat out, as well.

This is a great thread to read. It wasn't until recently that I started to religiously track my spending's. I found out that I spend close to $1000 on just eating out + additional on groceries. Now I am budgeting about $100/wk on groceries =$400 and about $220 eating out for the month.

I shop mainly at Superstore and Walmart for most items. But tend to go to Save on Food's for fish and meats as the quality is vastly different. It is on the expensive side, do anyone have recommendations where to buy quality meat at a low price?

Local PC Independent Grocer for most small stuff, get PC Plus points. Every 20,000 I get $20 back, and my shopping is pretty predictable so it works for me. Usually get the credit every 2 months.

And I just got a Costco card for frozen meat, rice, quinoa, coffee, cheese etc. Worth it IMO.

Veggies at Kin's or farmer's markets.

dont go superstore, place is garbage with junk food. protein there isnt that great either ResidentSleeper

superstore still has the cheapest baby spinach you can buy....1 kg for $6ish
Costco eggs (36 for $10ish) and egg whites (2L for $10ish)
I buy all my beef from a single farmer in Alberta or restaurant hookups for bulk order.
Chicken I buy from Costco (3 whole chickens for $30 bucks, I trim/section myself) or 8 breasts for $27ish
Pork I buy from T&T when it's on sale....I track prices in a separate spreadsheet
Anytime I want fresh/quality meat, I go to local butchers in surrey/langely...I know a few guys
All produce I buy from Greenfield's or Farm Fresh in Surrey. You cannot beat their prices ($1 for a bag of broccoli, $1.50 / head of cauliflower, $1 box of strawberries....etc)
Soy/Almond milk I buy from SS or Pricelow (whoever has the best price)
All my pastas/italian food I get imported thru a restaurant supplier ($1 / pack of pasta, $27.kg of 3yr parm...etc)
Obviously any specialty asian stuff I go to T&T or H mart.
Superstore still has the cheapest spices (cayenne, dried herbs, garlic, etc)
Superstore bulk for my cous cous or bulgar.
Cheese....states. I live close to the border, so it's a 10 min drive to pick up a block of tillamook cheese for 9.99 USD

Me and wife eat pretty damn good, don't really go out to eat unless it's something I don't know how to cook or I don't have the equipment to make it.

Roughly spending $480 - $500 per month, including any eating out together.

When I lived in Burnaby, I went to Costco all the time. It's too much of a time sink on the island, though. 2 hours for grocery shopping plus a 45-minute drive each way from Duncan. No thanks

Usually shop at Thrifty's or Save-On.
