I love my Lenovo T500-series laptop. I have been using one for more than three years for work/home stuff and it is still good in every way. You do have to take care of it and make sure your files are well-organized and clean (free of viruses). Also, make sure you have enough RAM in it so it won't be slow as molasses.

If this is for school, I would definitely get a Mac. I know in that price range you might get something that performs better, but I think it's completely worth it just for the battery life alone. I can go to all my classes, get some work and homework done after class, and still have battery life left at the end of the day. I got mine for $899 with a student discount and a promotion they were running at the time, 2 years and still running very strong. Every other laptop I have had has basically died on me in 2-3 years and needed to be charged multiple times a day.
But if you're going to be playing games as well, might want to consider something else lol

$800 max. Not for gaming. I'm not a mac user. Don't most classes have outlets anyways?

It's sort of hard to get used to at first, but it basically becomes second nature like using any other OS. Most classes do have outlets, but sometimes it becomes a hassle to constantly have to find a seat next to the outlet. Especially when there are others who go to class early just to get those seats lol

Do you need it to do anything aside from browse/other internet apps? What entails "business"?
If what you're doing is 100% online, I'd suggest a chromebook. Use the extra cash on something else that you need/want/don't need but want.
Of course, if you need any Windows programs or programs that do not run online, then you can scratch chromebooks from your list.

How soon do you need it? The XPS 13 from the Microsoft Store has dropped to $900 a few times over the past year. You can keep an eye out and grab one the next time it goes on sale. It's better than going to a Mac, and dealing with another OS.

XPS is the way to go with the non 4k screen so you get longer battery life.

If I'm gonna drop $1200 on a xps, isn't it better to get a gaming laptop as the specs are almost the same but you get a video card and bigger screen?

Yes, I think it is a no-brainer especially if you don't mind the bulk and extra weight.

Are you going to be using it for gaming and do you really need a larger screen?

I really like the XPS 13' but I also love my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga. I would choose 1 of the 2.
The lenovo has more options for Desktop accessories/docks. The Dells docks are quite $$$ right now $400, for a Type C dock.

XPS 13 is all soldered. It's meant to be a premium ultrabook, hence the price.

XPS 13 SSD is an M.2, and it is swappable.

damn, XPS is nice with the battery life and light weight but the storage space is what's repelling me from buying it.

Clouds or NAS's are much more reliable.
