| Kitchen Sink Garburator
I just recently started using a kitchen sink which has a built in Whirlpool Garburator, I thought it was cool and what not to use as I can throw majority of my food waste ( excluding bones ) into it...
But it is starting to build an odor a really nasty garbage smell and I cannot clear this smell..
Have googled some things however none explain the smell, but my guess is the food is still existing in the chamber..
Wondering how many of you use a garburator, and if a smell develops, what do you do to remove this

Try putting bleach down it. Put the plug in, put about a 4:1 mix of water and bleach in, turn the thing on, then pull the plug (using a glove, of course).
Otherwise, you may need to reach inside and dig out whatever smelly residue is in there.
Check that there's actually a proper, working trap AFTER the garburator outlet.

cut a lemon or lime in half and throw it in. Will clean it out and have it smelling fresh. Also you can toss your old lemon/lime peels in.

Also, you should run cold water when you run your garburator. When you run hot water it causes your food scraps to "melt" to the blades and food stays there causing the odour sometimes.

Thanks guys smell is gone, but feels like I would have to do regular maintenance to get rid of the smell.

remove that rubber piece on your sink.... keep the cold water running .. and i usually dump a bag of ice with slices of lemon/lime in there...... it usually does the trick..
I've never tried the bleach method.. but the lemons and ice seems to always do the trick for me !!

I just bought a big box of baking soda and let the whole thing go inside and put the lid on it over night,
I did some searching online and youtube'd --> vinegar + baking soda..
Smell is gone now

fill it with ice cubes... mix with soap and run it. The ice will remove the bits of food stuck on the blades.  | |

dumb question... wouldn't ice cubes "hurt" the blades?
and vinegar and baking soda, isn't that the volcano experiment in grade school? did it "explode"? so it's ok ?
