I can understand from the point of view of the Alberta meat producer that Earl's decision does have an impact on their bottom line. Alberta's economy is hurting right now with the low oil prices. -losing some business from Earl's can certainly hurt their economy.

Talk about people having a "beef" about the beef.

Government pawns sending out angry tweets because they're losing out on tax dollars. Well they damn well should pretend to give a shit, but how is that news?

If an associate treats them to a free lunch at Earls, I'm going to guess they'll show up anyways when the news dies down.

To each their own, but I'm not a promoter of Halal meats and won't be ordering any beef products from Earl's for that reason. I don't mind other people who enjoy it for religious or whatever reasons though, it's just not for me.

Some Muslims and Jews think it you stun an animal first it's not the traditional method. So some slaughter houses do not stun the animal first.

Halal meat is also a major sin in the Sikh religion. Sikhs are not even spouse to go to restaurants that serve Halal.

Earls meat isn't halal. It is just supplied from the same ranch that that also provides halal meats. Halal argument was used by some troll comment that deduced halal meat? Earls supports terrorist.

Not true. But many Sikhs choose not to eat meat.

Sikhism Religion of the Sikh People

Quote:
The view of Sikhism is that eating meat or abstaining from it is the individuals choice. A Sikh is considered no lesser or greater a Sikh if they eat meat or are a vegetarian.

Final Ruling from Akal Takht

The Akal Takht represents the final authority on controversial issues concerning the Sikh Panth, in this regard the issue of meat eating has been settled. Hukamnama issued by Akal Takht Jathedar Sandhu Singh Bhaura dated February 15th 1980 that Amritdhari Sikhs can eat meat as long as it is jhatka meat and that eating meat does not go against the code of conduct, Kurehit, of the Sikhs. Thus a Sikh cannot be excommunicated for eating meat.

^^^ so up to 1980 it was a contentious issue?

Didn't know that it was against the rules for Sikh to eat Halal/Kosher, that's interesting

Edit: from Sikhs.org
Quote:
The reason again does not lie in religious tenet but in the view that killing an animal with a prayer is not going to enoble the flesh
Actually, upon reading more, it doesn't sound like you're not allowed to eat Halal/kosher meat, but rather the idea of it being better is rejected... Anyway, interesting topic

Quote:
We must give the rationale behind prescribing jhatka meat as the approved food for the Sikhs. According to the ancient Aryan Hindu tradition, only such meat as is obtained from an animal which is killed with one stroke of the weapon causing instantaneous death is fit for human consumption. However, with the coming of Islam into India and the Muslim political hegemony, it became a state policy not to permit slaughter of animals for food, in any other manner, except as laid down in the Quran - the kosher meat prepared by slowly severing the main blood artery of the throat of the animal while reciting verses from the Quran. It is done to make slaughter a sacrifice to God and to expiate the sins of the slaughter. Guru Gobind Singh took a rather serious view of this aspect of the whole matter. He, therefore, while permitting flesh to be taken as food repudiated the whole theory of this expiatory sacrifice and the right of ruling Muslims to impose iton the non-Muslims. Accordingly, he made jhatka meat obligatory for those Sikhs who may be interested in taking meat as a part of their food.

And one semitic practice clearly rejected in the Sikh code of conduct is eating flesh of an animal cooked in ritualistic manner; this would mean kosher and halal meat. The reason again does not lie in religious tenet but in the view that killing an animal with a prayer is not going to enoble the flesh. No ritual, whoever conducts it, is going to do any good either to the animal or to the diner. Let man do what he must to assuage his hunger. If what he gets, he puts to good use and shares with the needy, then it is well used and well spent, otherwise not.

The steaks have definitely been raised with this move.

With Earl's chucking them aside, Alberta must've felt like they've been T-boned and roasted.

I think it was more of a misunderstanding. Many Sikhs don't eat meat so people thought eating meat was against the Sikh religion.

Haven't eat in Earl's or those chain food places for years and years..... The food is overprice and the taste is below average.

Rather eat at home or small restaurant.

If you've watched the documentary "cooked" on Netflix the host who is a doctor has an interesting take on modern comercial meat production, basically says it's the biggest atrocity of the modern man in how we are basically forced to treat/raise animals to meet demand

As a lifelong hunter I always get fucking pissed when anyone who eats meat tries to take a stab at hunting. Obviously ignorant to the process that their meat takes to get to the table.

Last 3 deers I've taken, none of them took a step, and all were dead by the time I walked up to them. Shitty life they lived though, growing up free in the forest, going and eating what and where they want. How cruel of me
