just did my first climb of the year the other weekend, struggled a bit for 53:18 :okay:

edit: is it me? or does there seem to be more "stairs" now?

Did my first climb,
Felt like dying after 1/4 mark..
However it took me one hour and 28 minutes.

Lots of other good, beautiful, challenging hikes all within a similar driving distance to Grouse Grind. Don't limit yourself to just this place, man.

unit 06-01-2016 11:28 AM

who said they were limiting themselves to just the gg?

DragonChi 06-01-2016 06:16 PM

This year so far, i've done lower grouse bowl, lynn peak, quarry rock, bcmc, and grouse grind.

Did grouse grind a couple weeks ago, post squat day. 1hr 05m. Going to get sub hr this year.

Packed as hell during mid day. IMO same amount of stairs as last year. They did a good job of clearing debris from the storms this year. bcmc had some fallen trees on the trail still.

waiting for the snow to melt so whistler/pemby can be done. hopefully coliseum too.

The 2,830 steps of North Vancouver's Grouse Grind appeared to be too much for three people who had to be carried down Sunday after going into medical distress.

The District of North Vancouver Fire Department says it had to treat the three separate people who got into trouble on the popular hiking trail, which on Sunday saw temperatures rise up to 25 C.

Grouse grind opens for 2016 season
Hiker dies on the Grouse Grind
B.C.'s Grouse Grind named in list of 10 most dangerous hikes
On its Twitter account the department asks people to, "stay safe on the trails," and "stay hydrated and know your limits."

Grouse Mountain says more than 150,000 people hike the Grouse Grind each season, and while Outside Magazine named the trail one of the 10 most-dangerous hikes in the world, most locals recognize that it only presents problems for people who do not wear appropriate footwear or bring water.
What a waste of resources. These ppl need to be publicly shamed.

If they were out of bounds or unprepared, they should be sent a bill.

DragonChi 06-05-2016 08:10 PM

I think the most dangerous thing would be getting a heart attack on the grind. Most weekenders I see on this thing are not physically prepared for it. The first time I did it, I had no idea it'd be that hard.

PeP 06-06-2016 06:56 AM

Did it first time last year October-ish, 45min time or so. This was after the forest fire season when we hiked everyday so I'd say I was in OK shape. Going to do it again on days off soon, early morning, so no tourists can slow me down.

These kind of endurance activities are 90% mental; you'd be surprised what your body is capable of doing. I also had an attractive partner so looking at dat ass was enjoyable as well and kept me moving.

unit 06-06-2016 07:20 AM

a lot of people don't bring enough water too.
first timers who do it in almost 2 hours bring a tiny little dasani bottle and think thats enough.
when you're in over your head for 2 hours and all you have is 600ml of water, you might run out by the 1/4 mark

ZN6 07-02-2016 09:31 AM

I haven't done it in a while. One year I did it like 17 times during summer because I wanted to get together with the girl I was going with :( Haven't done it since. #becausereasons

That breaks my heart :(

I'll be getting a pass this year. I was planning on going every sunday morning, but I feel like that's when all the people will come out. Nothing worse than grinding with a bunch of people in your way.
