From what i understand he his separated from his wife and they are not divorced.

What else would you expect to happen? The outcome of the lawsuit all depends on how much political backing the mother has, who has the political upperhand at the moment in the ever-present CCP political in-fighting. It absolutely has nothing to do with whether or how much the mother has conducted any corruption activities.

The court proceedings will be a pure show -- everything will already be pre-arranged and the outcome pre-determined prior to the actual court case. It doesn't matter if the amount involved is 1.7T or 1.7k -- the evidence may or may not be presented in court, and the whole court proceedings will be done and over in an hour when it actually takes place.

But even if the mom is given a guilty verdict, it doesn't mean her future is over. Just as the melamine-tained baby formula case turned out, a big shot in the food regulation bureau was convicted and demoted. Give him a bit of time to cool off, and the incident to die down, and he got himself promoted back to some other food safety agency VP position. So if the mom still has any political value of use, she will be back in some sort of official / CCP capacity.
