Saw this last week at Cineplex Coquitlam (don't know if it's still playing). Hats off to that Cineplex for showing new release Korean movies throughout the year, they've played some nice ones.

Unfortunately I think perception of Train To Busan is a little off. It's not scary at all; I hate horror and jump scares but this one is more tame than Walking Dead. As far as Korean summer blockbusters go, this is quite watchable and many would find it entertaining. Typical for Korean action it doesn't have much plot or character development, but it can be a fun popcorn flick.

I also noticed the Korean dominant audience laughing a lot more than I was. There's plenty of jokes and I think some of it may be lost in translation. Just an observation, doesn't really effect the film too much.

If you're into a lot of Korean movies it could be worth a theater viewing. I think the average Canadian movie goer experience may range from passably entertaining to slightly disappointing for a $13 ticket. It's some mindless cheesy fun if your expectations are low. A lot like 28 Days Later, but much less scary and more for general audiences.

Also, Flu (2013) is a similar movie on Netflix. Korean summer action/suspense flick about a deadly virus taking over Seoul (no zombies). Since these films tend to follow the same formula, watching Flu could give you a good idea of if you'd like Train To Busan or not.
