Anyone ever deal with BC Hydro over billing issues? Logged into my BC Hydro account and noticed a large one-day spike in my usage this past Sunday. But at the time, I was out of town for the long weekend and didn't return until the following afternoon. Saturday = 3 kwh (out of town) Sunday = 16 kwh (out of town) Monday = 5 kwh (returned late afternoon) How is it possible that consumption spikes over 5x in a single day while I'm not even there? The only thing I can think of is the refrigerator running, but does that alone make sense? I am doubtful because in 60 days, I haven't exceeded more than 10 kwh in one day. It's a 1 br condo with baseboard heaters connected to a thermostat (that's currently set to 0). No gas. I'll probably have to give Hydro a call but am wondering if anyone else has dealt with similar issues? |
Have any of your previous Sunday usage have any spikes, even on a smaller scale? Sunday is often the default day for various devices to update themselves, even if they're left in standby mode. Alternatively, maybe a friend or family member with a key came by and decided to cook dinner and crank up the heat. :p |
yeah sunday usage is on average higher, but that's also the day i'm usually at home. the highest day of the week seems to be saturday, which is around 8 kwh on average. in either case, in the past 60 days, the highest single day usage for any day of the week was no more than 9.5 kwh. |
someone's coming over when you're gone and having a party. |
Ya, install a camera next time you're gone. |
Ask if there's a chance someone's meter is mixed up with your account |
