Probability of you getting involved in a motor vehicle accident in BC

I know this is really random, but I was just thinking about this..
According to ICBC, there are 260,000 claimed crashes in BC / year.

The population of BC is 4.6 million.

4.6 million / 260,000 = 17.69

Does this mean 1 in every 17.69 people will be involved in vehicle crash every year?

If I put more factors in, here's how it looks...

In each crash, usually there are 2 cars involved, sometimes with passengers too, but sometimes just one vehicle.
So let's say the average number of people involved in each crash is 2.

17.69 / 2 = 8.8

So now the number is down to 1 in every 8.8 people / year. (11.4% of population)

Also if you think about not every single one of 4.6 million people in BC drive or have drivers license, etc... I think the probability will be even higher.

So each year, on average, you have 11.4% of chance getting involved in car accident?

Is this accurate or did I do my math wrong?

Statistics can only go so far with a large area.

You should run your numbers based on Richmond only, bet the numbers are a lot different.

Claims or claimed crashes? Because claims are not necessarily the result of a traffic accident.

I've had 6 claims in the past 9 years since I started working on the North Shore. Rear ended 3 times in stop and go traffic. Rear ended once at a stop sign, rear ended once at a red light. Latest one, I was in the drive through lineup at McDonalds and someone backs out of a stall and hits my front quarter panel. All in North Vancouver. People just drive too closely. Doesn't seem to matter if it's left lane, right lane, speed limit or 30 over... there's always some dbag less than 2 car lengths behind me. It's a good year for me if nobody hits me... lol

Claimed crashes. Vandalism, theft, etc. do not count.

You guy, if there are 2 cars involved in an accident, those are 2 claims.

Also, i've been driving for 13 years and now and have been involved in 3 accidents, some of which were not my fault. Statistics like this are absolutely meaningless. Interesting, but meaningless.
