Pack a snorkel!
This winter looks steep and deep.

Whistler Season Pass Pricing 2017/18 is live. Think ahead and save.

All the 2016/17 pre-season deals are gone now. I'll leave the spreadsheet up but it's kinda useless at this time.
My big spreadsheet This answers a lot of the "what is the best value" questions.

I'm not going to link to all the normal things you can just Google or find on the resort's own pages so...

Links to weather related things that you may not know about:
Cypress webcam (skier's plaza) (with real, live footage)
Cypress webcam (snow accumulation in the past 24h cleared @ 10pm nightly) (with real, live footage)
Honest and accurate forecast based on RWDI's secret sauce model at popular resorts
North Shore Rescue's forecast for local hills @ 915m elevation
NOAA snow probability vs accumulation (really cool)
Enviroment Canada ensemble (good for looking at long term temperature trends @ YVR)

Whistler specific cool things:
Whistler status (I think it's better than WB's own app)
isthepeakopen.com
Whizzy now counts your vert based on RFID pass scans!
High resolution, geotagged, PDF maps for in-bounds skiing at Whistler and Blackcomb. Money well spent if you want to start shredding the awesome chutes and couloirs on Blackcomb, but don't have a local expert to show you around.

If anyone wants to get into ski touring or splitboarding, PM me. I'd love to go show someone new around a simple area. Take your AST1 first.

Repped for the spreadsheet.

Me and my wife bought a place on the north shore. This is our first few months on this side of the bridge, and its been fucking WET. I've got some high hopes. Just hoping I can find a way to prevent work from ruining my life for yet another season. 10 days or less just isn't gonna fucking cut it.

This rain is throwing a wrench into what basically was the perfect early-season.

All the pow above 1600m yesterday will be gone by the end of the day today.

Cypress tickets page is updated to show the Niteowl rate. I would've been pretty irked if that went away. Considering the Silver Pass this year seeing as how I managed to go to about 15 times last year, mix of afternoons and nights.

Few of my buddies and I are planning to hit up Sun Peaks or Big White in December for a couple night, excited for that!

underscore 11-22-2016 12:46 PM

Fingers crossed this will be a good season, I've got my Big White pass already and plans to do a weekend at Fernie, possibly one at Red and one at Revy.

prudz 11-22-2016 01:26 PM

Opening day is tomorrow!

I'm driving up right now to wait in line for first lift :D

westopher 11-22-2016 06:07 PM

You will probably be lining up at zogs if you leave now haha.

TOS'd 11-22-2016 06:14 PM

Looking forward to this season. Probably head up to whistler on the weekend for a day, and then several times over the season.

Hoping Cypress/local mountains gets some soon so I can put that pass to use.

6793026 11-22-2016 07:05 PM

i never ever ever go to whistler on weekends, i take a sick day and do it on weekdays, so much more fun with zero line ups.

TOS'd 11-22-2016 07:29 PM

I'd usually agree, but taking a sick day isnt on option this for me at this moment.

I kid I kid.

I arrived at about 6:45, uploading started at 8:15 and I got in the Gandhi at 8:30 on the money.

So much pow. Pow everywhere.
Blackcomb will be just as crazy tomorrow.

westopher 11-23-2016 09:00 PM

Looked like it was sick! Hoping to go on Sunday or Monday.

320icar 11-24-2016 09:30 AM

Does anybody have experience with the WB edge card 'direct to lift' charging? I just linked my credit card to my edge card, want to make sure 100% that it actually works. Should be going up Sunday for first season run on Monday

westopher 11-24-2016 10:01 AM

I've used it for the last 6 years, no problems.

320icar 11-24-2016 10:14 AM

Ok. My friends loaded their edge cards up, but I'm not willing to drop so much moolah up front. So I have no problem doing one day passes. Worst nightmare though is waiting all that line with my friends to just have the edge card not read or something and have to go stand in the huuuuge lift ticket line, then back into the lift line

westopher 11-24-2016 10:16 AM

If theres one thing WB will never fuck up, its making it easier to take your money haha.

neverLift 11-24-2016 10:29 AM

New to the Vancouver area, how do the Grouse/Cypress etc compare among each other for a quick evening? Cost, terrain, snow etc. When do they start getting enough snow to be decent/worthwhile?

I realize it won't compare to Whistler/Revelstoke/big mountains, but they're nice and close.

cheers

westopher 11-24-2016 10:33 AM

Depending on where you are coming from, grouse is likely the easiest. A bus takes you right to the gondola.

neverLift 11-24-2016 10:35 AM

Coming from New West, I'd likely drive. But good to know, thanks!
