Ski/Snowboard 16/17 thread

Brace yourself.
Winter is coming.

It looks like Cypress split out the "pass protection" from the silver pass. It's still included for the G8. Normal price is $389 for an adult silver downhill and then $50 for the guarantee.

They guarantee at least 76 days in a season. Anything below 76 days nets a 1% discount on a renewal up to 76% off.
Assuming that a renewal pass will be $389 for winter 17/18, that's a maximum of a $295.64 discount.
Assuming the worst possible season (100% closure), that's $3.89 a day return.
50/3.89=12.8 days
76-13 days=63 breakevens
It appears that $50 insurance policy would pay off if only Cypress was open for 63 days or fewer. I don't think I'm getting the insurance. (secret super special note; if you have access to club pricing, the breakevens is at 18 days).

Also: did Cypress axe the night-owl rate? It looks like the downhill tickets page only has two rates, while the (out of date) gold medal pass page has 3.

I also updated my big spreadsheet that answers a lot of the "what is the best value" questions.
