Battery Sparking

So.. My battery died a while ago back in October.
I figured it was a good as time as any to winterize the car.

So I replaced it with a good working battery, and the terminals are sparking?

Could it be a short somewhere?

I put the ground on first, then put the positive if it matters.

I have a Compustar Pro 2way. Sc400

Dude it's the middle of the night and you're still up? Then again so am I.

Is it sparking ALL the time after you connect the terminal or the first few moments when you connect the terminal?

If it's the 1st you have a short somewhere. If it's the second that's normal.

BFBC2 withdrawl? lol

Like the other guy said, if it's just a little spark when you connected the battery thats normal.

If it's sparking even AFTER you've connected the battery is definately not normal. Could be a faulty battery or short somewhere. But usually if there's a short elsewhere it'll blow a fuse.

Make 100% sure you connected the right terminals and not backwards on the battery. Make sure it's 100% the right battery. Sometimes batteries are the same size but have reverse posts on them meaning the negative is on the other side and vice versa.

To add, always connect the negative terminal last, even when you're boosting.

I have a reading break week. I was gonna play Bad Company 2, but they shut it down to update lol

It sparks a bit, then it doesn't. If I moveit a bit it sparks again. If I move it enough it does the wonderful sizzling sound of welding.
Could it be my wire harness that was rubbed through a bit?
I insulated each of them with electrical tape and heatshrink...

Where is it sparking? At the battery terminals? if so, take the battery out, get one of those drill driven brass brushes, clean the battery terminals, wipe them clean and reinstall.

Where the 2 terminals meet.
The terminals are clean as hell.

The battery is there is supply current to the vehicle... If there's a circuit that required power and you make the connection at the battery, slowly, then yes arcing or sparking will occur. If the key is while you connect the battery then you'll see some considerable arcing since the whole car will look for a sudden surge of power.

If the key is off, then you most likely have one clock and or the stereo looking for power, and arcing is much smaller...

It's normal unless you connected them backwards, car smokes, doesn't start, or really just smells burned...

Now, if that battery dies too quickly, say you leave the car sitting without starting for a couple of days or so and it doesn't start. The you may have an abnormal draw on it.

on a side note, it's good practice to connect the positive terminal then the negative one.

for removal, remove the negative terminal then the positive
