i don't think most rsers know how peter chao actually became popular. youtube is actually all really is a popularity contest. you do know that just somewhere out there, there is someone 10X funnier and more original than peter chao with say 1000 subscribers? but hey theyre are probably those who are 10X more douchebaggier than he is too who are way more popular *cough*sxephil*cough* but i digress. the way to becoming famous on youtube isnt about good content anymore. you could have an insanely crazy video but if no one knows about it, wtf is that gonna do?
peter chao became famous because a really nice youtuber (mrchicity), who at the same time was really popular, did peter a favor and encouraged his own subscribers to go check out peters page. to me peter is just another random vlogger who had a huge ass break. of course he follows the youtube formula of success [catchy/unique (glasses, accent etc) + boobs (previous videos, check em out) + shout out from popular youtuber, or widely watched source (tv etc) = SUCCESS]
i guess what brings me to this point is, do you think peter chao would do the same for someone else and give them a shout out? don't think so, hasnt done so yet or not that i know of. i mean, when youre already on the top, why would you want to share the fame? i mean cmon, the guy is raping a contest he KNEW he was going to win.

follow his older videos. he follows a very smart formula. in fact, him using their music was a win-win situation for him. he didnt start giving them shout outs when he started getting his 1 mil+ views, he was with them from day 1. peter gets catchy music on his channel ("theme song" if you will) and the arka teks get more coverage. he knows how to get viral, i give him props for that. he did his research. remember, when making youtube videos, theres more than what you see. the most popular top level youtube celebrities all have a team helping them out. whether it be script/story writers, video editors, "peter" is not a one man team. hes the actor. but i GUARANTEE you, hes not the only one behind the camera.
EDIT: i don't hate peter chow. what hes done is go from nobody and climb all the way up to the top of youtube. do i personally like his videos? no. i hate them. i think there something only a non asian would like. although not against the rules, i dont like how he totally entered a contest knowing that even with a shitty script, he would still win just from being able to use his already well established peter chow brand name.
fuck, what do you think would of happened if steve nash, or kanye (not canadian) would of entered the contest? even if it was videos of themselves taking a shit.. they would of raped peter. why? because they have better name brand power. that being said, there are no other youtube celebrities entering contests because its just wrong. this was a complete dick move. fail or rant me if you want.

Well, in the entertainment business, or any business, it's not always about making the best products. A LOT of it is about marketing and getting your name known. It doesn't really matter how you get there, it's about getting there. And that's the bottom line. He does things he knows will get people talking about him. And there's always gonna be haters. Every successful company has haters. But as long as you have more "lovers", money keeps rolling in. And that's all that matters.
Ice1cube is a good example. I agree. He probably is more funny. But why isn't he well known?? Well... what makes him more special?
He doesn't have a "character". You can't discuss among your friends, "Hey you know that .. um... chinese guy? The really buff chinese guy on youtube???" Everyone will not know who you are talking about. Then you tell your friends, "Hey, you know the chinese guy with the sunglasses and the accent?" People will instantly know who you are talking about if they have stumbled upon one of Peter Chao's videos. Even if they don't remember the name, PETER CHAO." That's the difference.
And besides, I don't think Ice1cube is trying to be a entertainer as a living, while Peter Chao is. His stakes are gonna be a lot more higher in what he does to get his name known to public.

He's only doing this for the money btw, it's really obvious, hes on the youtube partership program... and he has almsot 300k subscribers, and gets 500k video views usually within the first week of uploading his new videos... that right there is 4000k + a month... probably more.

Fucking hell, he's killing it in those Doritos rankings, he's up like 800,000 points ont he second place video. I seriously fail to see what's so funny about him, his accent and material gets dry pretty fucking quick. Only the white people I know find him ROFL funny. It's pretty obvious that the Doritos contest is directly related to how well the entrant has established himself on YouTube. And Peter knew that going in.
He's got a strong marketing ability, I'll give him that. Otherwise, he's just another YouTube star playing the race card to rake in the dollars. The more he makes, the further he probably gets to either getting famous enough to get noticed, or gets greedy and starts charging for content.

I was reading this article on top paid youtube stars while ago, that annoying 15 year old kid "fred" whatever his name is, got just over 1 million within 1 1/2 years... prbly made more now.

peter chao has over 6 million channel views... and that's just for channel views.
i don't know what exact figures are, but its different for each and everybody. when you first start off as a low level partner, you actually only receive 3 cents for every time someone clicks on an ad on your video. this includes the box, and the ad on the bottom of the video. but as you start becoming a higher level youtube star, youtube and google will actually negotiate a contract with you when how much you will gain, for clicks and ad clicks ect.
some people with 18000 of GOOD SUBSCRIBERS and GOOD FOLLOWING will make around $600 a month. good subscribers means people who actually comment, rate and follow you, not just someone who has subbed you and doesn't watch your videos.
top level youtube stars make about 6 figures a year. fred makes about $10X,XXX amount. and of course he would receive additional income from apperances, signings, merchandise etc.
to be honest, i dont think peter chao makes anything near that. he probably makes around 40k somewhat a year, which is still pretty awesome for doing nothing but sitting on your ass all day on twitter.

Subscribers: A youtube partner will get paid $.05 per subscriber. If a person has 100,000 subscribers for example, they they will have made $5000.
Channel views: A youtube partner will make $.01 per channel view. If a channel has 1,000,000 channel views, the person will make $10,000.
There are many other ways youtube partners make money like through ads and sponsers. These are just 3 general ways they make money. In order to become a youtube partner, you best have atleast 2000 subscribers, 50,000 channel views, and 1000 views per video.
