To me, the trend of the markets are still quite bearish...and not only the Canadian/US markets either...would you guys agree?

Just want to know what you guys think of the overall investing environment at the moment.

I think the overall market is irrational and could snap down at any moment. Although the Greek parliament passed their vote today, which the markets were expecting anyway, the underlying problems with Greece, and indeed with the PIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Spain), are still present, if not getting worst. The only country holding the Euro zone together is Germany, with the UK a very distant second. So when (not if) the next PIGS see fiscal problems, the markets will fall again. It could happen in weeks, not months.

Furthermore, I would recommend that we all keep our holdings liquid, either in cash or in stocks with high volume so when shit hits the fan we can leave quickly. Commodity stocks are a good bet (apart from pure uranium plays, that is).

I see, I've been waiting for a good medium- to long-term entry point for some stocks but I think it's still a bit early to jump in.

But at the moment I ain't making any money so I'm just wondering what stocks you guys are playing for some "easy" profit.

I've been flipping Teck the past two weeks, with about one trade every day, for about 10% profit so far on $20,000 principal (with Questrade so low commissions). I try not to hold over night with Teck, because it tends to gap up or down significantly more than other stocks. Usually I buy in the first 30 mins of trading, based on the early trends that morning. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but on average it's worked out for me for the past couple of weeks.

what do you think about shorting TCK today for $50... will it go back down to $45? :)

I suspect that Teck will have a hard time keeping above $50, but it might not fall to $45. Obviously I'm not certain but my hunch is that it'll bounce between $45 and 50 for the next month or so, considering they just added $2B of debt today though they haven't said what it'll be for (the CUU guys are jizzing their pants thinking it's for CUU).

hmm just tried shorting 100 shares at 50.14, but broker rejected it.... it's already on it's way down

Yeah, too bad. Cash is still a solid bet for the next few weeks. That Greece crisis is far from over, though we might see a continuation of this recent rally in the stock markets for a few more days to come. I wouldn't hold anything going into the weekend, however. The (my) euro markets open one day ahead of you guys in Canada.

Anybody else got this Questrade email?

"Due to market volatility, the margin rate on common shares of Copper Fox Metals Inc. (CUU.VN) is increasing to 75% effective immediately. Please review your current positions to ensure your account does not enter a margin deficiency due to this change."

Don't know what to make of it

Hm...good time to sell? Originally bought last year around 80 holding for long-term growth. Was doing well, until the US reg brought the stock down.

edit: looks like this is the reason for the stock jump

hahahaha yeah everyone though it's for CUU and started calculating Teck's 2 Billion debt here plus their 1 billion cash is equal to a 3 billion buy out. hahahaha

blkgsr 06-29-2011 08:05 PM

could someone explain the results for CUU? good/bad/less than expected???

I think CUU investors are getting tired of waiting around at $2-2.15, while every resource stock is climbing this past week, most of them more than 10%. I too expect a big drop in CUU today, just because people are pissed tired of waiting around and are now realising that their money can earn 20-30% and still have time to buy back CUU later in the year.
