By selling at the bottom you do the exact opposite. You buy when it's higher while sold at the lowest price. Factoring the associate risks into, the downtrend has to be pretty big to be worthwhile. With Dow already down by 2000, selling now doesn't make much sense in long term.

I didn't say estimate where the bottom is. I said wait for an idicator that the trend has reversed. U don't need to catch the very bottom. Trend reversal indicator.

And yes its down 2000 points but why were u holding it the entire time? Why didn't u sell off earlier and buy back now (or later). Or why didn't u short it this whole time?

Downtrend doesn't have to be big to be worth while. Trend is a trend. Up or down its all the same. You only need to catch a bit of the trend.

I duno anyone that's so good that they always buy at the bottom and sell at the top.

Like I said I trade futures. I can't "hold" positions while I wait for them to reverse. I'd lose the shirt off my back from margin calls everyday

I think it's simply a difference in what you guys play and the inherent perspective/strategy, you play futures right? IIRC you only need a tick or two a day and you're making decent income, so that is a different inherent perspective than from someone who's investing :s

Ulic Qel-Droma 08-09-2011 02:25 PM

There are plenty of long term futures investors as well. K yeah well everyone has different strategies and tactics. As long as you make money, you're winning so I can't argue agaisnt that lol.

Woah, from -24000 to green? damn you must be in some volatile/high beta stocks

aznl3oi 08-09-2011 07:35 PM

i think he holds some cuu and today was a good day. It went up 20.77% and pretty much the same as where it was on friday, so the debt crisis is stabilized for now at least. i'm still feeling a NR tomorrow or thursday.

we might have problem if this is the bc hydro project that goes up north to where CUU is.

tomorrow is an important day see if we can sustain this rally

got so lucky on ANX, got out @ the 20% bounce and it got a CRL after hours !

TouringTeg 08-10-2011 09:40 AM

So much for sustained rally. I am glad I have limited exposure to the US market in my mutual funds.

highfive 08-10-2011 10:11 AM

shawnly1000 08-10-2011 10:55 AM

Carl Johnson 08-10-2011 12:05 PM

its seen an awfully large run up of late, no question about it - but i'm not selling yet

does that mean i'd buy more? well, i'm not right now

i recommend buying ETF's in gold - the miners are too risky, they can mess up, whereas an ETF just tracks the shiny stuff (personally i'm in UGL, a leveraged ETF, up >40% in the last couple of months on a >20% run up in gold)

blkgsr 08-11-2011 10:06 AM

http://www.stockhouse.com/Bullboards...0&s=CUU&t=LIST

$2.23???

i sure as fuck hope not....

3klipze 08-11-2011 10:22 AM

^ its talking about "fair value" back in 2007.

@blkgsr , don't get scared @ what SH people assume. Cuu's fundamentals are still there

edit: especially of how the thread is talking about the technical of the price point, with NR to come the SP will definitely spike up or down with results (hopefully up)

edit2: does anyone here hold ONR.TO?
