Hey guys,

My dad has a pretty good collection of L lenses, but never has any time to play with them. We've decided to sell most of them and keep the 85mm 1.2 and one camera body to use. My question is which body to keep? 5d mk2 or 1ds mk3? both are full frame, 21mp and so on. the fact that the 5d mk2 can shoot video is definitely a plus, which is why i'm leaning towards it. i'd appreciate it if one of you photography gurus can give me an explanation of why one is better than the other. thanks!

all 6 will be up for sale soon, just trying to figure out a price first. (there is also a 24-70 but i think we're going to keep that one as well)

I'd say keep the 5DMK2

Looking to get a fisheye lens... Don't really have a price point on how much I want to spend. What would you guys recommend? I use a Nikon D90.

I've only really used my uncles Tokina 8-11mm which satisfied me

Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 DX or DX II?

Using it on a Nikon D300s.
Haven't researched into it too much yet, but the only major difference in the DXII is that they added a a/f motor built in.....and reports of better coating on the glass reducing glare. Is it really worth the extra price considering a/f isn't necessary in the D300s?

I haven't seen the improvement in flare resistance, but the first gen Tokina was pretty bad. Shooting Canon, it was enough to make me pay the extra cash for a 10-22

i'm looking at a Canon 500mm f/4 IS lens on eBay. i'm thinking of getting it shipped straight to Canon for a tuneup, is this possible?

let's say the seller has no problem doing this, will there be problems on Canon's end knowing who the actual owner is, etc? i'm trying to avoid any foreseeable red tape.

Call Canon and ask.

anyways, missed that one too. however, i was offered an A-1 2006 500mm f/4 IS with lenscoat for $6800, in town. deal or no deal?

N.V.M. 12-30-2012 09:40 AM

told him no. can't believe i can't find a 500mm v1 in Vancouver.

Nikon 70-200vr f2.8 VR1 vs VR2.. surely can't be worth the price premium?

On a D3X/D600/D800 the edges are noticeably soft wide open with the VRI. The VRI really wasn't optimized for full frame. If you have an APS-C body, then the differences are not very noticeable.

Congrats on the 500L NVM!!! Welcome to the big white club!

pics of the new beast. as advertised, minty as can be. it also comes with an RSS foot, which means i don't need to attach a plate to the stock Canon foot.

What lenses would you recommend a newbie starting off with?

I have the standard Nikkor kit lense atm, 18-55mm.

Senna4ever 01-11-2013 07:48 AM

Maybe a prime like a 30mm f1.4 or 50mm f1.4, and depending on your budget, maybe even the 70-200mm f4VR?

Razor Ramon HG 01-11-2013 09:00 AM

Thanks, I'll check those out.

I was debating on getting a 50mm prime. My friend said that if I started off with a prime that I would learn more than with a zoomie.

Nikon Macro tube extender (manual)

Is that macro tube worth purchasing?

sunny_j 01-11-2013 09:12 AM

i would go with a 24mm or 35mm fast prime. shooting with prime lenses make you really think about the composition of your picture.
