the base automatic coopers from 02-06 have the cvt transmission with self destructing transmission (cvt belt snaps) search cvt and cooper and you will see how bad this issue is and mini is not recalling the problem.

I was planning to get a manual anyways.

yeah its just the auto non "s" model transmissions...

I was talking with my friend who works at Richmond Mini's service department, and he said 05-06 is your best bet, 02-04 had issues that were fixed in 05-06.

uncle owns an 04. never had any problems, he loves it.
