ok an update.

friday morning, my sis tried to take Titan for a walk. his first walk around the neighborhood. our vet told us not to take him out too much until he built up his immunity from the shots and everything. its mainly interaction with other dogs.

so first attempt, the stairs that lead to the house... complete utter failure! he stopped right at the top steps and would not budge. he started to shake in fear. i believe we picked a wuss... (which is fine). my sis had to carry him onto the sidewalk, which he still refused to budge and continued to shake in fear. the walk ended up with my sis carrying him around for 1/2 a block in her hands(just barely able to lift him now as he's growing big really fast!)

we will attempt to walk him again today on my day off...

haha, too funny...

Mr.HappySilp 02-05-2008 08:27 AM

^^ LOL so how is the 2nd attempt at walking him went?

threezero 02-05-2008 06:32 PM

he is probably entering his fear period right now. My dog was like that too at around 16 weeks. When we take him out for walk it looks like we stole the dog cause he has to be pull along.

Despite this you MUST take him out more, ignore what the vet say about him needing all his shots or whatever. Puppies are hardier than u think. Just watch his interaction with other dogs, make sure he only plays with dogs that are vacined. The period of time the vet tell you to keep him inside is actually the best time for socialization. Take him out and make sure he seems everything he will encounter as an adult. Don't make the same mistake i did.

so vet visit today

11 weeks old now, he's managed to almost double his weight. jan 15th ish was his first vet visit, and he weighed in at 12.5lbs. feb 15th, weighed in at 21.7 lbs.

puppy training has been going slow. he's pretty clumpsy, and still thinks he can sit in your lap.

anyhow, vet said he's in perfect puppy shape. puppy training classes start next week for him.

Inaii 02-18-2008 04:40 AM

Awwww!!!! He's so cute!!! I love how the big breed dogs think they are lap dogs, and the little dogs have a "big dog" complex most of the time lol.

Love the pictures, keep 'em coming! =D

such a cute dog!!

!SG 02-24-2008 02:49 PM

so i feel compelled to write up about this dog.

my parents got the dog roughly the same time as i moved back. i moved back temperarily til the end of the summer when the new place is ready to be moved in. since then its been a bit weird, conflicting schedules, and just being more independant. Parents have been pretty good but its the sister thats the issue. She's taken up this dog as a way to deal with the loss of our last dog. She's a bit over compensating for things she has been feeling that she didnt do or give to hemingway. part of it is pushing her way to make this dog an indoor dog. (seriously, 250lbs?, he will need his own room at that rate!) With that means pushing her way of training this dog. Out of respect, and well, sake of not wanting to argue, the familys been goiing with the flow... til today.

She had a mental breakdown. Crying and shit saying no one is helping. i tried to stay calm explaining everyone is contributing when they can when they arent in HER way. Ive been getting up at nights cleaning Titan's messes. Now im getting shitted on by her for not helping just cuz she sleeps like a log and doesnt hear or get up for that.

This is part of the reason why potty training this dog is taking so long. her combined internet reading theories has screwed up the dog in thinking going out to the grass is play time and not "business time". he will actually hold it until he gets back into the bathroom where he will "let it all go".

this dog isnt the smartest dog in the world, but combined by not having the smartest owner in the world means very slow and messed up progress. sisters sense of positive and negative re-enforcement isnt working. she is yelling "bad dog" when he pees on the carpet, and then she pets and plays with him 5 seconds later. if this dog doesnt turn out messed up, ill be very surprised. the whole dominant submissive thing isnt working for her. the dog owns her from what im seeing.

hows my relation with titan? pretty good, he forgets every so often who the owner is, but a quickjerk on the chain, smack on the nose, and he's back in line. why is it working for me yet not my sis?

ohh, and stubbornist to take on other suggestions isnt working either. im talking about the sis, haha. i suggested, since he's pee'ing and pooping on the blue training mats, why not bring 1 or 2 outside? he associated the smell n site of the mats to going there. thats how i see it, i cant see it harming right?

cool dog

kitsune 02-26-2008 10:16 AM

Titan's taking puppy training isn't he?

At the rate he's going, I'd get him potty trained and all that pretty soon..
It'll be harder to control a 250lb dog.

Also, I think it'd be really hard on your sister as well if Titan doesn't turn out the way she wants him to, because he's like the "second" Hemingway to her(?)

I think she's giving him mixed messages for sure. She's gotta be firm with it, like peeing on carpets..
Let him out to do business, I'd try that blue mat outside thing, and don't let him in until he pees.. (he's gotta go sometime!)
Then praise him immensely and let him in.. (or something)

Good luck with the training.. and your sister!

one leg at a time, 6 week recovery inbetween surgeries.

@ 10 grand for the legs and meds and everything involved, he better be able to jump over houses now!

Fully recovered being his usual self...

Milk will give the dog runs.

racerman88 01-01-2011 10:24 AM

Hope your dog has a speedy recovery. My buddies dog had surgery b/c he blew out his tendons when he was playing. Cost him around $10,000 as well.

Look into tuff plush dog toys from Booda. Really good customer service. I bought a replacement for my dog and it only lasted one week and it popped stitching. Firsy one lasted over one year. I emailed the booda company and they sent me a box of 6 different toys as well as the same one for my dog.

!SG 02-12-2011 04:29 PM

2 stray dogs attacked Titan while my sis took him out for a walk...

end result, $140.00 vet bill.

My sis said one of the dogs had a shirt on, so thus, leaves me to believe they are not strays, but just some irresponsible owner letting their dogs loose or just plain not taking care of them. i wonder if this is the same 2 that tried to attack Titan while i was working on the car.

Im gonna walk the same route with Titan, if i see those dogs, i will fight back. Never mess with an asian that know mores receipes about meat than they have teeth!
