So I just watched an old Andy Lau, Hong Kong film called "Magic Crystal" its from 1986 on Channel 516 (the LSTimes channel)

its basically an Indiana Jones esque film with martial arts

the really odd thing is though... its almost like Spielberg watched it before making KOTCS

The russians are the enemy also

there's also a lost city raided @ the end which has an Alien/ship in it

instead of the Crystal Skull though its a big piece of Jade and the Jade is needed to be taken to the Alien to resurrect him so he can fly home

the jade also talks telepathically to the person wielding it

but instead of the site being in south america its greece

so many OTHER similarities I just had to post it somewhere

and this HK flick is from 1986

someones description of the film on imdb

Quote:

Looking to cash in on the popularity of Steven Spielberg's mega-hits E.T. and Raiders of the Lost Ark, Hong Kong schlockmeister Wong Jing directs this yarn about Andy who, along with buddies Pin-pin and Pancho ventures to Greece to find his long lost friend Shen. They soon discover Shen is being tailed both by the KGB and by Interpol after discovering some rare gems in an archaeological dig. After a unkindly series of events, Andy winds up back in Hong Kong with the stones, which, it turns out, is not gems but rather an alien life form.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091532/

you can watch it online here

http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTkxMjc5NzY4.html < no subtitles though

there's a trailer of it here

it basically shows the whole movie and shows all the martial arts in it basically (the saving grace of the film)
