And he tried to block it from being released. They had to get further external funding from other producers to get it distributed in theaters.

DIDI, (in mandarin is little brother).
So so aweseome... it was totally exactly what I went thru in life in the 90s but this was based in 2008

Asian boy living in america is like, from dating, girls, bro, trying to be cool, finding identity, dealing with asian parents, weed...
EVERYTHING that i went thru is exactly what I went thru.

Casting was spot on, acting.. superb, story line.. really good... I did want the ending to be a bit better or so called happy hollywood feeling to make this a happy go lucky... Still good to say the least, if the movie could be a tad faster in pacing, it would have been perfect.

So many jokes that I could relate with....would have made... from pranking your sister, awkward boners, drugs, having non Asian friends, trying to rebel and yelling at your mom.. I resonated a lot with it. Good job mr director, producer as well as writer. *CLAP CLAP CLAP.

wife and i enjoyed it esp we were both asians... she didn't get the struggles as a asian kid....

The Substance - 8.5/10 - We really enjoyed this film, really well directed. It's body horror, some scenes might make you flinch, but it's fantastic stuff. Excellent message as well, and very easy to understand the varying metaphors the director is trying to relate in the film to body dysmorphia, aging, and cultural expectations of a woman's appearance.

What a refreshing example after that wet fart of a film Megalopolis.

Will & Harper 7.5/10

Watched this documentary tonight, it was easy to watch for the most part, a bit hard and extremely uncomfortable on the Texas portion, some genuinely funny moments punctuated by a fun song at the end.

I walked away learning something about what a trans person goes through both privately and publicly and… in some strange way I forgot I was even watching something about a trans person’s journey and just found myself wishing I had a buddy I was that close to that I could take an adventure like this with regardless of a life changing decision being made.

I only knocked a few points off here and there because it did drag a couple of times (no pun intended) and some scenes felt a bit stilted. I don’t know how much they actually scratched beyond the surface of the issues at hand.

Monkey Man (film)
Directed, screenplay, Story, Produced by Dev Patel - dude who played slumdog millionaire.
It wasn't really that good of a movie - I think it had potential but it was too much into action. Raising from the ranks part was great... a bit of love interest.. decent but when the dude became john wick was when it took a turn. Again... emphasis on the circle of life movie ending was not to be missed and how it try to come with a decent ending; I just couldn't shake the John Wick ass kicking out of my head.

Boston Strangler - produced by Ridley Scott & since I'm a sucker for Keira Knightley, it was a decent watch.

It kept the mystery portion well and since it was based on a true story, i liked it. As for Carrie Alexandra Coon (not that famous, she was in 2 ghostbusters which were meh); whoever casted her was on POINT! Ending pic of real character & Carrie was identical LOL.

I thought this DVD type movie was legit; acting was shit to say the least - the husband role was crap, Keira smoking, playing a reporter hard ass just didn't jive too well. The character building was a bit too fast - come on, this was a lady who first reported on lady magazine and now she's a news reporter. All in all, I took it with a grain of salt, learned a lot about Boston Globe newspaper back then.

Decent watch, just don't expect its Oppenheimer.

Civil War
Kirsten Dunst playing a stuck up, zero emotional reporter was perfect. Man she ageddddd. 1) movie starts RIGHT into civil war era, no BS, no need to explain back story.. Who freaking cares.. I'm the director... F u on hollywood storyline. Props to him.
2) Then they casted Cailee Spaeny - new face (aliens), which was a good surprise. I didn't think it was possible for a journalist during civil war to be developing own film but hey.. I rolled with it and it was pretty cool.
3) The other supporting cast was good, nothing worthy of an oscar but just added to the story.
4) If you expect guns, rape, fire, drugs... you won't fine it, so dont' expect it's action thriller.
5) I did love how they did snapshots of shots.. and it was superb. Thought it was a nice touch. Great way to enhance the movie.
6) The ending part of the movie was sweet and bitter at the same time - won't give away any spoilers - i had a great time seeing it play out and knowing how the movie was going to end, it was still legit.
For once the script was solid and Kirsten Dunst, played the role well.. it was only the end where Kirsten did a pivot (due to the script and not her acting), weakened the movie a bit for me...

High Forces - ok, fine, how many asian movie do you see with Andy Lau... (he tried to push out 5 movies before his concert tour). I'm glad I watched this.
Fast paced, great story line, few plot holes, few weak story emotional tugs but it was very well knit together for the first 90% of the movie.

Reminded me of the movie in the 90s with Kurt Russel - Executive Decision.

Thank goodness this was a china based movie, no need for stupid chinese cameo to pay for HK movie with zero love interest etc. (HK movies are all like that).

The last 20 minutes was pure JUNK and totally unbelievable.... however, given how tight the movie was going, i let it slide. The Antagonist did a solid job and it worked well.
