Last year I made my own snow tracks.

I took two metal IKEA grills, originally intended as bathroom shelves, and zip tied them to multiple cuts of aluminum square tubing the length of a tires width... the tubing had holes drilled in it so that I could attach them with zip ties.
I did a little test on a few inches of snow and it worked.
Will have to get them out of storage to take a pic.

Is it bad if I start my car and drive it into the garage and turn it off without it warming up?

Like everything, it's fine if you rarely do it. If you do that everyday, then no.
What do you think the mechanics do when you bring your car to their dealerships... They don't warm it up...

here's a tip..

if you 'purchased' your license and live in Richmond....don't go out on the roads when it snows.

Yes, and it seems like a lot of hassle. How much earlier does your mom leave? Your garage is most likely not very warm so your car will still be frosty. And don't you need to defrost anyway before you can drive and move your car to the garage?

donk. 12-21-2017 06:33 PM

get off the fucking road

theres my tip

hi-revs 12-21-2017 07:33 PM

Don't be one of those cunts, with un-prepared cars, and fucking tailgating.

If you're not going to pass the de-icer going 40 km/h on the highway, get behind it instead of creating a several km traffic backup.

If your car has an under tray or factory skid plate, check it and make sure it’s mounted correctly! Just this little bit of snow the other day already ripped apart my undertray. Cars stock height and everything. But it’s those stupid felt fabric kind and the air scoops just packed snow in and made itself too heavy lol

ZordosZZ 12-22-2017 07:09 AM

please take a couple mins to clear the damn snow off the roof of your vehicle. seen so many vehicles with a thick layer of snow on the roof in the last couple days

windshield wasn't damaged thankfully.

saw giant sheets of ice/snow fly off a car wednesday morning on the 99 south just after the oak st bridge and thought to myself...it's only been one day of snow and the morons are already doing moronic things.

My advice for all ethnicities, gender and ages:

If you feel the need to drive <10km because its a "safe" speed just do us all a favour and stay at home or take public transit.

If you drive <10km in the snow on any upward incline that's the best way to get stuck and then fuck over everyone else who's behind you.

bump...........

Now that we actually have a decent amount of the white stuff.

First year driving the EV with snows and it’s great. Put it in brake mode and it helps a lot.

I have decided to stay over tonight at in-laws after coming here for dinner.

Got winters and everything, but the potential amount of noobs on road wasn't something I'd risk my kids with.

MG1 02-10-2019 08:38 PM

Good choice. Cars and shit you can replace. Family, no.

Any tips on tuning a Carbureted car for easier cold starts?

So far, I've done the following:
5W30 oil
Sparkplugs with correct temp rating
Sparkplug boot covers
Running 91 Octane
Factory carb tune (Carb has not been touched since leaving the factory)

It's a Chevy 305 V8 with a quadrajet, electronic choke works great. I noticed it runs super rich during startup, which is natural for carbs. Running the factory aircleaner as well with the tube from the header to warm up the gas.

Also, I am quite happy with how much better stopping distances are without ABS and good winters.

Nope.

That, and fuel economy, are the main reasons the world went to fuel injection.

GabAlmighty 02-11-2019 03:53 PM

I'd say maybe a manual choke would probably make life easier?

I actually forgot about using starter fluid lol. I will grab a can and keep it in the car.

Bump.

Better late than never...............

BIC_BAWS 01-17-2020 08:11 PM

Don't stop on a hill with RWD, even with snow tires.

(Granted I did this on Blue Mountain, and there was no way to keep going except to go into oncoming. Slid down the hill to a side street and took that way instead LOL - only like two car lengths)

Somewhere in there is my claim. I got rear ended on Monday and I'm still waiting to hear back from an adjuster. Luckily it was minor and I'm not in any rush to repair.
