BCIT IT programs I'm thinking of going back to school and doing something in the IT field. Probably network administator area. I was looking through BCIT's programs, but not sure which one would provide the best opportunities after graduation. Anyone have any experience with BCIT's programs? they all look very similar to me. Any advice in which programs would be best. Thanks |
i've been looking at the bcit Computer Systems Technology program and from what bcit tells me its more on the software, developing side of things. Computer Information Systems is more hardware, maybe networking admin, IT troubleshooting type of program. both come in co-op and 2 year programs with a degree option. just call 604-434-1610 follow the options and talk w/ an advisor, usually they will call you back in a few days. they called me back the next day and i talked on the phone w/ them for about 30 mins about the program. they also gave me the number to their co-op coordinator to talk about their co-op program. |
thanks for the tip much appreciated |
the co-op program for CST is fairly new (about 2yrs? old) so i wouldnt put all your hopes in it. of course, i could be wrong. and yes, the program is heavy in programming. |
in terms of job prospects and advancement which would be the better program? |
Sorry to bump this, but anybody in either CIST or CST have any experiences/comments on the program? |

BCIT got a lot of hardware for you to play with, helps getting the hands on experience. |
I'm also interested in any information about CST / CIST. I'm almost finished my 2nd year of Fin Man, but am thinking of changing directions. BUMP! |
if youve taken a program at bcit. you know it takes pure dedication to be in a program first level had 7-8 courses 5-6 which had exams, assignments etc. its painful for people that like to balance school and play, because school takes up all your time - if you plan to succeed. going into third term my instructors have said 4-5hrs of sleep a night is lucky. |
yah right now i am doing second semester of the cst program. it is a lot of work in the first semester with essentially 6 courses(2 of them require no hwrk and you just showing up) and our finals consisted of 6 finals in 7 days. but other than that it was fun, learned a lot of cool stuff. you can check out what is offered here: http://www.bcit.ca/cas/cst/diplomacore.shtml in the second semester two of the courses listed you don't actually do during the semester so your only stuck with 6. you guys can pm me if you have any questions. |
