Loving that colour too

These are awesome bikes. My friend recently got his and it really got me thinking of getting my license and getting a bike sometime in the near future...

But how do I know that riding is for me? How did you guys find out?

Getting into driving a car and riding a bike is completely different. I can imagine that with riding a bike, you have much more responsibility, and "looking cool" isn't a good reason enough in justifying your desire to ride. What are things I have to think about if I were to take the plunge? I've been doing research bit by bit but feel as though my knowledge is still very superficial on the subject.

My suggestion:

Take a course with a school. Yes, it will be a sunk cost but it will give you a good idea of whether riding is for you or not.

For me I had a strong interest being on 2 wheels since I owned a scooter 2 years ago.

Turn to today's date and I hopped onto a bike right at the end of summer:rofl:. Definitely the most impulsive thing I did but well worth it.

As much as I want to mod my car, there's not really much to do to it, and plus it will become another money pit.

So I picked up a 2009 Ninja 250r w/ Limited Edition Color:drool

It definitely has enough power to boot around in the city:thumbsup:

I feel the same way with my car. I was quite into modding back then but it just faded. I REALLY want a bike right now, but I want to know if this desire I have isn't just because my friend has one and that it looks cool.

Yeah, I've read a few articles saying that the courses definitely help out. They say that it also builds up your confidence in riding tenfold as opposed to just learning without the course.

How much does it cost? Like $300? It'd be a damn shame if I took that course and find that riding isn't for me.

LOL at least it's not a cbr 125, I definitely don't want something that looks like a bicycle with fairings :p that's just my opinion.

Definitely taking a course would be ideal. As for the costs, if you want credible and excellent rider training course, I as well as many people here would recommend PRS
http://www.pacificridingschool.com/?page_id=8

Their course is $800 but they provide very comprehensive training for beginners. Ya it might be a bit pricy, but since you dont know if you want to ride or not, you wont be able to get gear + bike + insurance for under $800, and unless you have a buddy willing to let you ride his bike, a course would be ideal.

Don't hate, man. The CBR 125 is an awesome beginners bike. So cheap to insure and to operate and it's perfect for city commuting. I would love to pick one up for next season. :D

Take the course at PRS and see how you like it. The course at the JI is only $50 cheaper than PRS.
If you don't, then at least you can cross it off your bucket list.
I got my wife to take the course and she loves it now.
It definitely is a lot more responsibilty compared to driving a car.
Definitely have to factor in cost of bike and insurance as well as gear. Insurance is a killer for bikes. Gear can get expensive too.
If you look into a beginner bike, a ninja 250 is a good longer term bike.

I had to get my wife to look at the bike in the daylight to convince her. She thought it was just orange, but it is actually a metallic orange.

That doesn't mean that they decided to ride only for the sole purpose of looking cool.

bcrdukes 09-08-2010 05:25 PM

You'd be surprised. :p
