With this job market those type of stores will hire just about anyone who wants a job.

So no you don't need experience.. your just need common sense

Not everybody is fortunate enough to be making $45k+ to start in retail.

ImportPsycho 05-23-2009 02:09 PM

dont know what other retailers pay but, BB seems to be highly under paying
do they give benifits? employee discount?

bcrdukes 05-23-2009 06:00 PM

Have you ever worked a day in your life in retail?

$10 is already pretty good for retail. Most stores in malls pay in the $8.xx range.

The key to getting the interview is in the resume. Even if you got the experience and skills, if you suck at presenting it in your resume, you will not get the interview. Using those resume templates online or those built into word processors are not going to get you the interview, because they are just generic templates that are ineffective. I could be writing a book if I were to explain how to write an effective resume, because there are many ways of doing it. If you want to post your resume or pm your resume, I can tell you how you can improve it (I've helped a couple former co workers get their jobs by editing/improving their resumes and coaching them for their interviews).

There is nothing wrong with $9 job if the job is worth $9
I wouldn't work at BB because I think they deserve more than $9
I would be absolutely miserable knowing that the guy doing dishes next door resturant is making same money as I am, when I have to deal with so much more

Preemo 05-24-2009 12:21 PM

That's the way life goes. Life sucks and then you die. And in this time in age, any bucks is better than zero bucks.

would you rather tell people you work at best buy or washing dishes at a restaurant? at least best buy is more respectable.

bumping an old thread, but I wanted to ask what is the expected hourly wage at FS for lets say working at the computer and/or camera department as a sales associate?

Alpine50 02-04-2010 11:41 PM

you make $10 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

anyone know if any locations are hiring??

dj bally 02-05-2010 11:30 AM

best buy langley is hiring for someone full time in computers....if u work hard and are available full time ul probably land a job as a senior in computers really soon....they have been looking for a while

Alpine50 02-06-2010 02:13 AM

Anyone know if some bestbuys/ futureshops are looking for anyone???

most departments at Futureshop make $9/hr on subsidy, but if your commission exceeds $9/hr, you keep the Commission. For example, you work an 8 hr shift. If you make $120 in comission your pay is equivalent to $15/hr. If you only make $50 in commission, then you are considered on subsidy and you only make $9/hr.

However there are departments that make more than $9/hr on subsidy. Departments like appliances ($17/hr) and Cell Shop ($15/hr), have a higher subsidy but have more pressure to sell in order to hit their subsidy. But when days are good, people at Futureshop can make some gooood money.

I work at Futureshop Lansdowne in one of the departments with a higher subsidy. Futureshop lansdowne is actually the best FS in Western Canada. We consistently do better then the Best Buy next door even though they have 3 times the amount of staff then we do. If you are stupid and can't handle pressure, work at Best Buy, but if you want to make MONEY and are good at sales, work at Futureshop. Commission is sweeet.

On boxing day, sales people can pull in 3 grand plus. There are stories of sales people that make 6 figures a year back in the day. now it is a lot harder of course but is possible.

twitchyzero 02-09-2010 11:16 PM

6 figures from sales in a electronic big-box store?
call me skeptical

Mugen EvOlutioN 02-11-2010 07:57 AM

damn maybe i should go apply as my part time job

gearshifter 02-18-2010 10:40 PM

6 figures in an entry level sales job............... doubt that.
