RX8 computer reset

How does one reset the computer on a 2006 RX8? If the gas cap is not on right I got to take it to the shop to have the computer reset...costs 150 bucks. Any help is appreciated.

You need someone with a palmtop with a cracked version of Ford's IDS

You might have a faulty cap, you can get a replacement under warranty. It's a pretty common prob with the 8's.

If not, and IT IS indeed the gas cap causing a CEL, then it will go away after a few starts.

cant u just detact the neg terminal from the battery?

usually that will reset the ecu and any CELs.

or wait for a sale and buy an obdII reader. probably one of the best investments ive made. diognosed so many issues which would have cost me $$$$ to scan at toyota/lexus. find the code, then google search. if u still cant fix it, then at least u tried

OBDII readers(clears codes) at futureshop richmond for $99 (that was a good enough deal as it is)

I got another one for my sister @ princess auto for $50 that looked better (but that was a boxing day thing)
