Sorry to dig this up, but I been trying to contact Blackwater all week and left a message too but nobody has picked up the phone or called back yet. Is Jesse the only person that works there? Is he on Vacation or do you think he's just super busy? Should I just go down personally? I don't want to waste my time to find out it's closed or that he's so busy he can only talk to me for 30 seconds.

Well, last time I talked to him was last June. He was talking about going to Ontario for a month or so in the fall and that he'd have to close the shop for a while. Hard to say what happened after that because Tattoo shops and artists have a hard time staying still sometimes. He's a great guy so hopefully he is still around the GVRD area.

He's there, just very busy.
The average wait time is about 3 months.

He's closed Sunday and Mondays and usually closes at 6 unless he's doing some work.

Ya I would just go down and check out the shop and look at his portfolio. He's an artist as some people stated that its there tattoo and they can do whatever they want, he doesnt want to associate himself with garbage, so dont knock him for having pride in his work. When I was there for an appointment once some guy came in saying he wanted or had conan figure on his back (cant remember now), then some dinosaur beside it, and a spaceship in the background, he said in kind words that they could work the idea out to something similar but he wasnt going to make some ugly random piece of shit tat. I would definitely recommend him, fast work, and he makes good small talk so its just like chillin for a few hours. Heres my half sleeve, going in to get my chest shaded in, and probably book another appointment to extend my sleeve down or down my ribs. Theyre addictive :haha:

sorry to bump up an old thread. I'm trying to get ahold of jesse but I couldn't find a website or email. I'm not in vancouver right now and i'm hoping to book an appointment so i can get what i want done when I come back to vancouver in 2 months.

is jesse still working in GVRD? if not anybody else have good tattoo artist that does japanese style ? I'm trying to add to a previous dragon tattoo i have, not exactly a cover up, i like it but i wish the body have detailed scales instead of the shading i have now and i wish to add some background to it, anybody can recommend other artist for what i need if jesse is no longer available?

If you want asian style tatty and Jesse isn't around I would suggest you look up Jeff Tam from Monkey King Tattoos.

Google his name and his site should come up, you can see his work.

I would only go to these 2 guys if asian style is what u want.

I believe he is still in Vancouver... he has a fan page on facebook... i think the best is to call the shop ... although i am pretty sure he is booked up more than 2 months in advance...

he is still at 820 Renfrew got a few more hours of work on the sleeve from him 2 weeks ago. Go down to the shop and see him.
I would recommend him for anything Japanese, realistic black & grey, or illustrative.
He is booked up till August I believe.
I try to get in on cancellations.
if not go up Renfrew farther to Trigger Happy Tattoo and get Jay to lace you up. He use to work with Jesse at Blackwater and does some nice Japanese as well.

Was doing a google image search on Dragon arm Tats and it brought me here on the first page of images is Hi I'm Mike Phoenix .

As I am looking to get some new art done and I can not locate my artist I am look for who is good in town.

My artist (10 years ago) was Denis and worked out of Custom Tatto on Granville across the street from NEXT, I heard a few years ago he was on Commercial, but nothing current on him.

If anyone know if he is arround let me know if not it looks like Jesse or Jeff Tam

Denis is at Crossroad Tattoo. 12th and Clark just off commercial. Its Actually Jesse's old shop. Huge mural cant miss it.

Yup...looks very 'Jesse'. He's about the best I have seen locally for realism and shading.

Makaveli post comes up blank for me, no image. Even if I go to his personal gallery All I see is the thumbnail then when I click on it, it goes to a blank page. oh well.

Orgasm_donor, Jesse is good but there are artists in Van who are in another league.

As far as realism goes this guy is probably the best in the area if not all of Canada.

and if anybody is looking for real traditional Japanese I would suggest Shoko Sonoda. She apprenticed in Japan under a Horimono Master and later fled to Canada as she was fearing for her safety.

For more western neo japanese i would recommend Jesse along with a bunch of other talented local artists. We are lucky to have so many good tattooists here in the lower mainland.
