Ya it's dumb how you have to hold it down and wait for it to jiggle just to close it. They should just make it like Opera browser for iphone and leave an X on the top left and if you double click it, it closes, otherwise if you click elsewhere it opens that page.

after the new format in order to upgrade to OS 4.0 it says i need to lose all my data pretty much, i guess there's no way to use itunes to get all my shit off of it again? need to go through those explorer programs or w/e then re-sync everything once i've updated?

what program is it again i need for this? would like to get all pics/music if possible

For music use something like iPhone explorer. Pictures are easy, just go to my computer and you should see your iPhone camera as a device/volume, then just drag and drop. For your calendar and contacts install outlook and then configure iTunes to sync this info 2-ways, this will copy all of this data to outlook. Also configure iTunes to sync your apps, during the first sync it will wipe your music but should prompt you to copy your apps to your iTunes library. During this sync process iTunes should create a backup of your iPhone automatically. After you update or restore your phone you will be prompted to restore from backup to regain all of your apps, data, pics and settings, this will NOT bring back your music. In some cases it best not to restore from back if you are having issues, there could be a corrupted setting or preference file in the backup. In this case then just tell iTunes NOT to restore from backup and to treat this as a new iPhone. Then configure iTunes to sync data from outlook, your apps, etc... Then you are done!

so if i do a backup, then upgrade to 4.0, will i be able to recover all pics/contacts, etc. from the backup or will everything be gone completely since i formatted my laptop?

i dont care about music really because i have it all to put back on, but i cant lose my pics etc.

fuck this is driving me fuckign crazy, using windows 7 when i hook my phone and use explorer to look into the files i cannot see any photos in the DCIM folder..

now i bought a stupid app from the app store that transfers 50 photos at a time, and it's going sooo slow uhg...

^ hmmm, when i plug in my phone I always get this window with a bunch of options. And I choose the first one "Import pictures and videos" and it saves all new photos in to this existing folder with pictures from my phone.

Yea I dunno it's weird no matter what option I choose it can't seem to find the pictures

just email the pictures to yourself?

How's he going to email so many pictures....

go to photos, press the share button, select up to 10 pictures and then press copy. go to the email app, compose a new message and then paste...

or try to access your photos from your iphone using usb on a different computer, a friends windows or mac machine.

Updated and jailbroke IOS4 on my 3g. I didn't enable multi tasking or wallpapers. Works perfectly fine!

is there a way to get free wifi/internet any were?

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I know I had an issue with my gf's iPhone. Accidentally updated the firmware to 3.1.3 w/ baseband 05.12.01 and I couldn't unlock it anymore.

I'm probably going to downgrade back to 3.1.3 as IOS4 is sucking the battery life alot quicker and I find that I have to restart my phone atleast once a day when I play games or it lags. I would restart my phone like once a week when I was on 3.0

Same im thinking of rolling mine back also noticed that its slower on basic day to day tasks.... :(

Is the 3G suppose to have multitasking etc?

no unless you jaibreak it. You have 2 options, when using redsnow you can enable multi tasking and wall papers or you can download backgrounder from cydia. I disabled multi tasking and wallpapers when I jailbroke and downloaded backgrounder. It lags the phone :(. Guess 3G wasn't meant for anything higher then 3.1.3

Sim card is a sim card. unless it's from an iphone 4 which is microsim
