just remember to change your plugs if you run it through the intake. it seems that not many people know that.

Rikaro 06-29-2008 10:19 PM

How much do you need to seafoam your car? a bottle?

SkunkWorks 06-29-2008 10:28 PM

1/2 in a full tank. 1/4 into the oil (prior to changing it) and 1/4 through a brake booster line or other vacuum hose.

ZiG-87 06-29-2008 10:35 PM

on the back of the bottle they say 1/3 each.

SkunkWorks 06-29-2008 10:47 PM

It doesn't really matter, as long as you're able to distribute it out to all 3 areas in one bottle, you saved yourself $6.99 from having to buy another bottle. :)

hmmm.. whats the reason behind that?

Seafoamed my car today. Tons of smoke. My car kept on stalling after i suck the stuff in thru my vacuum. I had to start the car like 20 times before it stopped stalling. Then the check engine light came on, I was like, OMG, I screwed up. But then it went away after a while. I changed my oil & spark plugs too. Car is much smoother and quieter at idle. Good investment I'd say.

pull one of the plugs out and you will see why. it fouls them like nothing.

i fed 1/3 bottle of seafoam thru my PCV hose, didn change the plugs and the car still runs normal just like before.

ZiG-87 06-30-2008 11:52 PM

mine ran fine too. then someone told me i should have changed my plugs. I pulled them out, and they were FUCKED. and i had checked them a few months prior and they were fine.

also, i used the brake booster line and you could see how each plug was worse and worse the closer it's respective runner was to the brake booster line.

hey, plugs are cheap. you should be asking why _not_ change them. or just time it so you seafoam it right before you were going to change them anyway. or if you run irridium plugs or something, go buy some copper cheapies for a bit.

NiceRide 07-01-2008 09:54 AM

i seafoam mine yesterday, was expecting to see a lot of smoke, but there wasn't any :( may be it's coz i only poured it into the gas and the oil? the ride seems a little smoother anyway, don't know if it's just psychological, but i guess it doesn't yield the maximum effect if i didn't pour it into the booster/vacuum line? how do i know which line is booster/vacuum line?

ZiG-87 07-01-2008 11:01 AM

the only time it smokes is when you put it into a vac line. That's because it cleans off the inside of the cylinders and then burns off. Read the bottle.

also, i really hope you're not just driving around with seafoam in the oil. otherwise let me know your car's model and VIN so I can be sure I never buy it. ;)

ps the booster line is the line that goes from the engine to the brake booster......

q0192837465 07-01-2008 10:46 PM

^agreed.

NiceRide: Seafoam dissolves a lot of the gunk in ur engine & by adding it to ur oil, u make ur oil thinner. Results: more crap floating around & higher chance of those ending up being somewhere BAD. Change ur oil after like 10-20km.

NiceRide 07-02-2008 12:34 PM

that's what i heard so i booked my oil change for tomorrow morning before i bought the seafoam, may be i can buy another bottle and put 1/3 into the vac line? and save the rest for later use or i can just pour it into the gas?

SkunkWorks 07-02-2008 01:01 PM

Might as well save it since you already threw it into your gas.

If your engine is CLEAN, then it shouldn't smoke too much after sucking it through your brake booster line.

That said, I'm proud to have made a wicked ass smoke show. Residential neighbourhood completely smoked in FTW.

Also, don't seafoam your car in a non-WELL FUCKING VENTILATED place.

trd2343 07-02-2008 03:34 PM

Sorry, what's seafoam for..?

seafoam is a liquid that is supposed to "clean out" the internal components of your engine, such as carbon buildup and gunk.

I was just at NAPA and the sale was for the entire month of June. It is now July and the price is back to 11.99, couldn't get the sale price :(

03c0upe 11-19-2010 06:09 PM

wheres the cheapest place to get this now?

Hondaracer 11-19-2010 06:21 PM

so you put it into a full tank of gas? do you wait to change your plugs until your through that tank?

fuck i kind of want to do it on my truck (2002 F150) but i'm weary of it loosening carbon buildup, my truck only has 130,000km's, think it will be beneficial to do it?

I'd trust Italian tuning (WOT driving) over seafoam any day.

It's like transmission flushing - works in theory but you risk so much for so little....

Rogue951 02-17-2011 11:32 PM

Seafoam at Canadian Tire now.
this weeks flyer.

MindBomber 02-18-2011 12:14 AM

How good is seafoam really, do any techs have some insight they could share?

also when you run seafoam through your engine it can cause oil leaks by cleaning out the gunk that is plugging the leak, so make sure you go over your engine periodically to see if any new oil leaks have developed.
