Wow...SFU gave me a parking ticket even though my parking pass is hanging in my car.

They're going to get an angry bitch at their desk once they open tomorrow.

This isn't the first time they messed up.

Welcome to third year engineering, I guess. :( I'm at school until 6:20 pm Tues/Thurs...

I guess bad choice of words, I mean ECON is challenging, people under estimate it and you have to put a lot of work in it. Although the GPA requirement to get in is 2.3, the average in majority of those core courese over around 1.5 - 2.0. Econ is doable but just unecessarily way too competitive. But hey, if you think its your niche, by all means go for it : )

What makes econ so difficult for people? I received a C+ in managerial econ and I'm currently retaking macro (was young and slacked off first time around, currently retaking it and getting a B I believe). I'm still debating whether or not finish my bba back at bcit or pursue an econ degree at sfu :/

Jer3 11-08-2010 09:53 PM

i wouldnt recommend a econ major. it is definitely a challenging faculty that requires a lot of work. if your math background is not strong, thats an even better reason not to do a major in it.

turb0triX 11-08-2010 10:24 PM

what kind of careers would an econ major entail?

Lower division econ is easy. I know very few people that slack off more than I do and I ended up with B+/A- in 100/200 level classes. Upper div is much harder but like anything else it's fine if you put time into it. Unfortunately I don't, so I'm screwed.

Personally I would go for a BBA. The only reason I'm doing econ now is because 1.) I'm so deep into it 2.) I never considered BCIT as an option. If I could go back I probably would have went to BCIT.

What are your classes like? What are you expected to do? Most importantly, what kind of jobs are you able to get after an econ degree? I heard some people end up becoming tellers after this degree.

Alphamale 11-09-2010 12:44 AM

I dunno what you kids talkin' aboot.

Econ is a fine major. Depend on your profs, it will make your brain take shits it has never though it could take before. Good balance of "rational" thinking (which isn't really rational at all) and math skills.

Fyi, most people are in econ because they couldn't get into business.......

and although I'm sure econ probably has the same amount of retards in their classes, but due to the augmented interaction in business classes, you will shit bricks at how many incompetent people there are regardless of upper or lower courses.

You want a job after your degree? Go into engineering and other applied sciences. Otherwise, no degree is going to guarantee you a job when you get out.

Sure people become tellers after getting an econ degree and most stay at that level, but if you have some sort of drive in you, you can do much better. You don't even need a degree to get out of a teller level and do something better @ the branch level.

Thats understandable but I mean what do people typically go into after completing such a degree? I've searched it up on google but the results are somewhat vague, I'm curious what actual people have to say.
