Good bye SFU :alone: :okay: the time has finally come :(

If I met myself back in '09 when I started here's what I'd tell them:
1) Never pay for parking --> Always park @ Univercity by the apartment buildings and just walk. It says '3 hour limit' but no one ever checks. You think city of burnaby is gonna send someone all the way up to the top of the mountain twice? Not likely!

2) Never ever try to study in WMC. You'll end up screwing around/sleeping as soon as it gets dark because the lighting sucks

3)Be more personable, my first year sucked; I wanted to drop out so bad (marks and social life was shit). Just be nice to people, you'll make friends and end up liking SFU even though it is depressing as hell at times.

4)When its exam time and you can't find a spot to study, go to the first floor library. If that doesn't work, go to the 7th floor map room. There is always space there and an amazing view (I spent the majority of my time at SFU finding study spots with views, 6th floor AQ is also good).

5) Don't drink coffee unless you have to. Save your tolerance to caffeine, that way when it's exam time 1 coffee = hyperdrive.

6) The convenience store in maggie benston is always cheapest on campus, Nesters is always the cheapest on the mountain.

7) Studying always sucks, everyone struggles just as bad as you or worse. Bust your ass a few days before the exam and get that A in the class. Never settle for less! The difference in effort required to get a C versus a B is very minimal IMO, go to every class and there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to get at least a B in any class.

Honestly, I hated SFU for my first 2 or 3 semesters but this past year I've grown to love it and I do not want to leave. It's a small campus so you always see the same familiar faces, for the past 3 years its always been more or less the same people in all my classes so we've gotten to know each other somewhat. Will definitely miss all the friends I made off RS @ SFU and all the others I met along the way :okay:

I go into UBC .... I would've been there last year but my first year marks were :fuckthatshit:

A year behind is better than never getting into the university I wanted to get into I guess. Yes, I know I haven't finished calc. For the time being, although I have sufficient credits for 3rd year placement, the lack of calc 2/physics 2 = 2nd year placement. As soon as I finish those + my third year credits I'll jump third year and go straight into 4th.

To be quite frank, I didn't think I'd ever have a good enough CGPA to be able to transfer anywhere because of my first year marks. A lot of hard work, tons of caffeine and some late nights later, Here I am :) Still haven't accepted the offer they gave me though but I'm pretty sure I will.
Plus its much closer so I can realistically drive every day.

Yep gonna take them there. I got into general science. Didn't have some of the pre-reqs for the specialization I wanna do. I want to do microbiology and immunology so there's a few missing pre-reqs that I'll have to take for that as well.

So many phucking hipsters at ubc :okay: Gonna stick out like a sore thumb :fullofwin:

kevin7352 06-02-2012 06:46 AM

Thought you wanted to become hipster dhillon??

I like food too much. Between the nice asian mom/dad at koya and the nice persian ladies at simon Cee's I could never look anorexic enough to be a hipster :(

Best of luck at UBC. That's where I transferred from and it's an amazing school with a truly university-feeling campus.

I know a few people that did the Kwantlen > SFU transfer and its pretty easy to get a high GPA for transfer and possibly maintain it til you graduate (expect it to drop after getting into SFU so start off high)

I also know people who were in BCIT business, seems like BCIT has the most unnecessarily stressful business program with heavy course loads and wonky timetables. Some of them dropped out or just graduated from BCIT with a crappy GPA. GPAs don't matter to most industries but business seems like one of the places where GPAs do matter for some jobs and if you plan to do MBA in the future you'll need a decent one too.

Completing the final course in my final semester of my post-nearly career. So unmotivated to study.
