One of my midterm marks just came out to be real low. Was really not expecting that. Studied hard for it, paid 100% in class, thought I did really well or at least average, but turned out to have a low mark. I won't get my midterm back until Wednesday, could the prof possibly make a mistake?

The more I think, the more I cannot get over it. It's actually my first time that I paid 100% attention in class, studied hard... and I didn't pass my midterm. Just doesn't make any sense. Hopefully there is a mistake.

Well looks like I'm probably gonna fail Bus251.

Great.

Great.

The stuff is honestly not that hard. Do all the practice and you should be fine, don't bother reading the text unless you don't know how to do it, or you need to learn the theory. I sent your tut the extra questions and there is also lots on canvas. You still have about a week. Just email me if you need something explained to you.

I know some of these questions are better suited for an academic advisor but thought I would get more succinct answers here.

Major in Computing Science
-Assuming I live at home. Is it doable to work through the semester, maybe 15-20 hours a week? Or will my GPA suffer? For the record in September I'm taking CMPT 120, MATH 152 and STAT 270 (their equivalents)
-MY GPA isn't stellar but I still want to do co-op. If I have a portfolio of independent coding projects, can it help my case?
-I also want to take some business courses but don't want to do a double major. Right now I'm thinking adding a minor in Business Administration or economics. Thoughts?

For your 2nd suggestion of having a portfolio of coding projects, I say do it. I'm going to be using github to upload all my projects on there and putting the link on my resume, but my GPA isn't good at all. It's 2.4 at the moment and it's holding me back from applying for co-op. On the other hand, I know theres a bunch of cmpt sci people here on RS, we should make a RS Group and brainstorm projects ideas and code them :toot:

I'd be down for something like this. If we're short on ideas we can look to Craigslist for ideas/clients :lawl:

Pretty sure with all our brain power we'll figure something out. We could look on craigslist for ideas or look at shitty apps on google play/app store and supe the shit outta it :fuckyea:

CRS 06-15-2013 09:15 AM

Go make an RS app.

Seriously.

You'll have a great niche market.

That is actually a great idea. I think I've found my newest long term goal.

That is if someone else doesn't beat me to the punch.

fs604 06-15-2013 10:39 AM

@burnoutbinladen I don't know how good you are at math but it's definitely doable - 20 hours really isn't a lot. I took 152 240 270 and cmpt125 last sem while maintaining my gpa. I found that you don't really need to do any stat hw until a few days before midterms. And for 152 and 240 just do the weekly homework (for quizzes) and the midterm should come pretty easy. Same for 120, just do the assignments and you will do fine. But make time for the assignments, those will take a long ass time if you don't know what to right away.
