Motorcycle Liscense

hello, i am getting into the motorcycle scene, and have always wanted a bike ever since i can remember. i currently only have my N, and coming up on halfway to getting my real liscense. my question is, i heard it was easier, by easier, less steps involved, to get my motorcycle liscense when i ahve my full liscense VS with my new drivers liscense, any advice? thanks in advance

get some driving experience first, then look into your class 6.

Its true I asked the same question, ICBC will be able to explain to you better but simply if you have your class 5 you can take the knowledge test then bike school and after that the road test. There is a pamphlet at the ICBC centers you can pick up, don't even need to talk to the receptionist.

Not really license related but it's coming from years or riding and ownng tons of different bikes. Do yourself a favor and get a good bike to learn on (meaning don't run out and buy that Hayabusa). There are plenty of awesome looking and riding bikes these days that are still great to learn on and are fun to boot. Have fun and ride safe.

i would also suggest getting your class 5 first. you want experience on the road and make your mistakes in a cage.
years of driving in a car teaches you life savings skills you cannot get even if you were the best handler of a motorbike around.

big difference between driving and riding. No cage to protect you when riding. Have to be more careful. I lose count of the number of times that I have been cut off due to cagers not signaling a lane change or not shoulder checking.

According to my instructor, there's actually a loophole in current ICBC rules (as of June 2008 at least). If you have your car L or N, go and get your full bike license. Bikes don't have that L/N probation period, so you can get the whole thing done in a month if you want. And when you pass.. Class 5 + 6, at the same time.

With that said though, after you get that full license, you may want to rack up more clicks in a car. Way too easy to get yourself hurt on a bike if you don't know how to ride defensively.

Interesting. When I got my liscence, it was class 6 liscence if you had your class 5. If you were an N or L (class 7) you would be getting a class 8 liscence.

You still need your Class 8 (the bike L) before learning to ride. What I meant is that if you hold both 7 + 8 (instead of just 8) when you pass your 6, you get 5 + 6 at the same time.

They give you 5 along with 6 because they figure if you can ride w/o getting yourself killed, you're probably good to go in a car as well

... That's the same as having a Class 5 license while taking a test to get your motorcycle license, you will get your Class 6.

For us with full Class 5, yeah, the bike test gives you a 6 on top.

My advice was directed at those who do NOT have their full Class 5, and are stuck in the probationary L (6 mos?) and N (2yrs?) periods for their cars. So if you get your car L, then bike L, and get your full bike license, ICBC gives you BOTH your FULL CAR AND BIKE licenses. So you can have full Class 5+6 at age 16 if you want

+1 for PRS.

You still need your class 8 for at least 30 days (restriction when you get your class 8) before you can go for your Class 6 test. However, if you happen to have a class 7 at the time your pass your Class 6, ICBC gives you BOTH 5 AND 6 instead of 6 alone.

Note: You only have to go through the Graduated Licensing Program once. For example, if you hold both a Class 7 novice and Class 8 novice licence, to exit GLP you may take either the Class 5 or Class 6 road test. If you hold a Class 7 novice licence and a Class 8 learner licence and wish to exit GLP, you would take the Class 5 road test. Your Class 8 learner licence would then be converted to a Class 6 learner licence.
That is from ICBC's website, but the class 8 "N" stage is still 2 years so there is no real loophole. All this means is that it dose not make a diffrence when you get your bike L, it wont be faster if you wait tell you get your class 5

^ No no no, I specifically remember my instructor at PRS telling a young guy in my cohort that he was going to bypass his Class 7 and move straight to Class 5 if he passed his Class 6 road test. The guy had his 7N (and obviously his 8L) at the time if I remember correctly. He then smiled at us and said it's one of the loopholes that ICBC hadn't closed yet. This was in June 2008.

Mind you, ICBC might've gotten smart since

It is true that you will bypass ftom your class 7 "n" and go right to your class 5 if you pass your class 6 road test. It still takes 2 years as a N (motorcycle or car) so theres no fast track, you just dont have to take you class 5 test if you have your class 7 "n" and get your class 6, or you dont have to take your class 6 road test if you have your 8 "n" and pass your class 5.
All the loophole is doing is eliminating one road test so anyway you look at it you have to take 3 road tests and wait two years as a N.

Whooooa. So I had my Class (7?) but that expired, but I currently have my full drivers License, class 5. So if i went to get my full bike license, it would take how long? 30 days only for class 6?
