Sweet pics!

Peturbo, I'm like a 10-min walk from Tokyo station.

Jer3 07-22-2010 06:43 PM

place you listed as dodonkotsu is dotonbori i believe. its a shame you didn't have okonomiyaki in osaka (although you did have it somewhere else like in your other pics). also, i believe the famous ramen chain you went to is ichiran ramen. great pictures as well. next time your in japan, i suggest you hit it kuruma for chicken sashimi and charcoal grilled chicken.

damn seems like you had a mind blasting trip to the land of the rising sun. Did you guys do a lot of shopping? or mostly sightseening? Guess its time for me to save up and plan one of these trips. DO you mind me asking roughly how much did the entire trip cost you? i believe you only stayed 4-5 days? forgot what i read lol

PavelGTR 07-22-2010 07:45 PM

We did a lot of shopping too, stuff were not cheap (it depends on what you buy of course), but most of the stuff are pretty exclusive to Japan. For example Edwin jeans, which is JDM Levis, they are not sold anywhere else, so its cool to have little things like this. Our trip cost around 1500-2000 per person? But we had free accommodation and got a sweet deal on the airfare (300 bucks). The price includes the train pass that was brought up a few post earlier, which was around 200-500 dollars depending on how long the pass is for.

I've actually eaten some of that convenience store stuff you posted earlier. I actually really miss convenience store food in Japan...it actually tastes good and you can walk out in the middle of the night and get it. Great when you're drunk off your ass, coming home after a night of awesomeness.

How the hell did you get that price?!? I'd be happy if i am able to get anything near that price. For 1500-2000, how long did you stay for?
I was thinking about 4000-5000 for 1 month each person for everything.
We also have free accommodation but arent planning to stay there the whole trip since we want to visit other parts of japan too.

i brought 3000 with me when i went for a month. i think i could have done fine with 2000 since i ended up paying for not only my own expenses but my friends for the last 2 weeks as well (since he was studying overseas there and ran out of money right when i got there). keeping in mind, a lot of the money was due to random boozing, eating and oppai pubs

Big.Xero 07-23-2010 05:34 PM

Oppai pubs = titty bar?

Wow, thanks for sharing! I'll be in JDM land in ETA 6 days! :D

It will be my first time in Japan so I am pretty stoked! I decided to not get the JR pass because I'll mostly be staying in Tokyo. We found a package on a Japanese travel website: for roughly $300CDN it includes two nights stay at a fairly nice Ryoken and a roundtrip ticket to get from Tokyo to Kyoto and back.

BTW, for those who are in Japan right now.. anyone going to the Summersonic 2010 concert? :D

too_slow 07-24-2010 04:36 PM

For those who don't know WTF I'm talking about:

HTML Code:

<3 Taylor swift.. LOL

Ronin 07-24-2010 05:17 PM

Pretty average line-up. Jay-Z is the only act I'd really want to see although Nas, Stevie Wonder, A Tribe Called Quest, Pixes would be fun too.

You wouldn't be able to see Smashing Pumpkins since they're most likely at the same time as Jigga.

When I went to Summer Sonic in '08, I saw Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Vampire Weekend, Junkie XL, Justice, Boom Boom Satallites (awesome Japanese band), The Ting Tings, MGMT, and some other stuff here and there.

DRESS AND TRAVEL LIGHT

Not kidding. You'll be moving around a lot since a lot of the stages are far apart and if you're like me, you like being in the middle of things right up front. If you go to an act where people get pretty crazy, you're not going to want to be carrying anything. Plus you're going to be just drenched in sweat...some of it might even be your own! Dri-fit shirts ftw...

Food is not as expensive as you think...it's not terrible but bottles of water are going to be $4-5 and it's fucking 40 degrees this time in Tokyo.

Oh, and it's all the way in fucking Chiba so plan ahead for the hour long train ride so you get there ahead of time and don't miss the last train home.
