well, that shit does happen.

If you live in a low rise apartment (99% are woodframe) then you will hear it. Otherwise in a highrise Concrete Condo it should be pretty good.

concreate might help stop noises from above you. but it won't make any difference to the people beside you. since the walls aren't concreate.

infact I'd probably rather have wood walls then that tiny steal drywall framing.

ed is correct

if you are 4 levels and below only the footing is concrete and the rest of the development is wood

RenoMan 10-23-2008 05:15 PM

some apartments do have a concrete product that gets poured on the ground to help with the noise, it roughly 1.5 inch thick.

frost91 10-23-2008 07:28 PM

all apartments better have concrete poured onto the ground

but I'd much rather have it sounding good all over my place instead of only being good when sitting on the couch, or when my neighbors are hating me.

the problem with your theory is that by putting the bass close to you it will actually force you to turn it up louder to get a decent amount of bass since the wave hasnt even developed yet. Then your neighbour who is like 30 ft away is having his whole place shake cuz the wave has actually had a chance to develop at that point.
If that makes any sense.

For example. In my place the sub is right next to my computer desk. If I'm sitting at my desk the bass isnt too loud. If I sit at the couch it sounds good. If I go take a shower while I have music on I can actually hear it rattling the wall.

try writing up to the Strata, they should have insulated when they are installing hardwood floors

Shun Izaki 10-26-2008 01:16 AM

I lived in a concrete construction and pounded bass, no one ever cared :)

I don't see how a sound wave can "develop." Sound waves don't just magically amplify themselves with nothing. Which way is your sub aimed, that might have something to do with this.

If they have wooden floors upstairs, they should've installed an insulated pad before laying the wood/laminate flooring.

hmm

you work there too???

WHO do you work for??:D

MetroCan't??

well for condos, they are MOSTLY all wood frame

on highrises they are all CONCRETE. All the walls that are on a floor are usually SteelStuds + Insulation + Drywalls. Now whereas a wall is SHARED between 2 DIFFERENT suits(party wall), there are usually 2+ sheets of drywall; 5/8" + 1/2" or w/e

and for the ceilings the concrete are usually 6" thick. depends on what kind of flooring the peeps have upstairs, you might or might not hear anything.

It's the same in my building, how do you deal with the problem? my next door install her speaker on the wall (her living room) which is right beside my bedroom, I can hear the bass of her speaker whenever she turn the Hi-Fi on. I tried so many time knock on her door in the past few months, call the cops and strata but all are useless.

westcoastgsr 10-13-2009 07:37 PM

Fuck I can't deal with this anymore. I dont mind mumbling but hearing 60% percent of a conversation is unexceptable. I'm planning on ripping the drywall off and put in sound insulation, put the drywall back up. Use Green Glue and Quietrock on top. Lucky its only the wall in my bedroom cause the Quietrock is expensive. I wonder how much these new buildings are cutting corners especially the Olympic village.

tool001 10-16-2009 10:03 PM

i decided to move out of my last rental apt, cause 4-5 diff. occasions somebody shouted "shut up" / knock on the wall, while we were doing it.

one time, one of the girl i was going at it with, shouted back "ur just jealous because u aint getting any"/ another girl just started making moaning noises just to piss them off again!!

go for older buildings, thicker walls and floor!!!
