HELP: Slow AMD Athlon X2 4600+ ATI Radeon HD 3200 Gigabyte / 1 GB ram

hi guys I need help figuring out what is going on
This my computer spec
GA-MA78GM-S2H
ThermalTake 430 watt
1 GB Ram
AMD Athlon X2 4600+
OLD CRT monitor 19 inch (manufactured 2004)

now if I open a thread full of photos - when I scroll it scroll really laggy
Also when I open website like www.spike.com - the video is really laggy
break.com video is really laggy as well
Youtube video and liveleak video is fine
Text Forum (no photo) - it scroll fine
only when there is a lot of photos in a thread then it is really laggy - For example this thread
http://www.revscene.net/forums/showt...ht=arab&page=4
or this craiglist post http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/cto/872981323.html

here what I have tried
- Get the latest video driver (on board) ATI Radeon™ HD 3200

I have a T5450 1.66 Ghz laptop with 2 GB of ram can display photos and video much smoother than my AMD Athlon X2 4600+

I am started to think it's my monitor?

EDIT: Now I notice scrolling is fine - WTH???

a couple things might affect it.
first off check if the videocard drivers are install correctly. sometimes the driver for the video card effect the view of graphics.... secondly if you can... borrow some ram from someone and see if that makes a difference.... might need more ram
or you can try another monitor if you have extras or hook up the laptop to the monitor and see if it happens that way u can eliminate somethings

ok ol process of elimination works then

I'll try that..

I just open facebook and scrolling with only one photo on the page is laggy

oldsnail 10-13-2008 04:38 PM

what browser are you using?
Maybe try a different internet browser.

ddr 10-13-2008 06:43 PM

it's probably the kind of browser ur using and how it runs java
try firefox, opera, chrome etc. anything other then IE is good imo
might b video drivers like the above said, or the types of codecs you have installed for your system. try k-lite mega codec pack and the newest flash/shockwave software for your browsers

and finally overall performance for you the greatest limiting factor (other than a faster hd) would u the 1gb of ram. nowadays 2 gbs will make a big difference. ur board uses ddr2 so if i were u i'd get 2 sticks of 2gbs

valent|n0 10-14-2008 08:03 AM

I use firefox 3 with flashblock plug ins
I thought it is the best and the greatest browser ever haha -
but yea only veiwing one picture in facebook and the scroll is very laggy / jagged - must be some java or something - or ram .. or my monitor who knows

Thanks for the help

http://www.java.com/en/download/
update java, like dragonone said?
if your on vista, get more ram.

Razor Ramon HG 10-14-2008 07:43 PM

Some background processes were probably hogging up the CPU usage from the looks of it.

valent|n0 05-02-2009 09:46 AM

did java update,
did video card driver

I think it comes down to
Slow hard drive
or slow monitor

like I said youtube and liveleak plays fine
break.com video is really laggy
can't be because of background process

I am running XP pro

I guess I'll wait till I have time to upgrade the Hard drive. My OS is on OLD 40 GB hard drive right now.. I am not sure what the speed is.

JHuJHu 05-02-2009 12:16 PM

did you update your windows? cause that sometimes makes the scrolling down the pages slow as fuck.

asian_XL 05-02-2009 06:00 PM

it doesn't seem like the above said problems.
the simpliest way is to uninstalled IE completely and install firefox or IE8, easy quick fix

if it lags without going online, then I would suggest to clean up your windows

Something is hijacking your computer.
