Language Learning CD-ROM
 

I'm looking for a CD-ROM language teaching program, as I remember reading about a particular one that claimed to be the most effective one available. I am new to this sort of thing and am looking for feedback and recommendations.

I need to learn how to speak Japanese and Spanish.

Yes; I am aware of the many tutors who offer private services but the costs, time constraints, travelling requirements and quality of instruction have veered me away from them.

People seem to recommend Rosetta Stone.
I personally don't like it because they do a multiple choice type thing with pictures and sounds, and once you hear the key word you already know what picture it is so you don't actually pay attention tot eh full sentence.
Maybe it'll work for you though.

pimsleurs is pretty good

Use pimsleur.

i like pimsleur for the fact that they have a person who is a native speaker...

but for spanish i'd go with 'Michel thomas'.. he's got a much better system; however, he's not a native speaker.

How far does a single level with Pimsleur get you?

I have heard many bad things about Rosetta Stone.

Pimsleur's pretty good. I got lazy and stopped using it after like 3 lessons though =3

Pretty far. I did the japanese one for about 2 weeks before I got bored, but even with just that, i could have simple conversations when i was in japan
