Do I have to pay these fees?

SFSS Dental Plan
SFSS Health Plan
UG Rec & Athletic Fee
UG Student Activity Fee
UG Student Services Fee
UPASS Fee

I wanna know which ones are optional and which are must pays. Thanks.

Ikkaku 11-21-2008 11:37 PM

I think the dental and health plan you can opt out of ... at least it'll be easier than the rest.

They're all optional. No one is making you go to school.

No, you were pretty clear the first time.

^ that is 1 option
the other is that : you go to Langara and you save ...

johny 11-22-2008 10:01 AM

if you have your own health / dental through your parents (or through your job) then you should be able to opt out.

Langara basically has these fees as well, except tuition is cheaper. However, upass is more expensive at Langara.

to be absolutely clear, all the fees that you have listed are mandatory except:

dental
health
u-pass

those three you can opt out of. however i've heard that the u-pass one is almost impossible to opt out of unless you're a family of someone who works for transit.

I looked into the exemption from u-pass, and your on point.

You basically need to be psychologically incapable of taking public transit before they opt you out of it.

v1nce 12-01-2008 04:16 PM

paying for U-Pass is fucking stupid. i don't even bus to school or use the bus/skytrains at all. i even supported some dude's petition to get rid of u-pass. i looked at his list and damn it was like 10 pages.

trdees 12-01-2008 06:27 PM

its there to ENCOURAGE you to take transit, its fucken BS

Ikkaku 12-01-2008 06:46 PM

blame all the people who petitioned and voted in favour of getting the program implemented.

SkunkWorks 12-01-2008 09:23 PM

I like the U-pass... :willnill:

The dental/health plan is fucking BS though. I hate how you have to pay for that garbage FIRST before you can opt out.

fuku 01-05-2009 06:06 PM

When you opt out and show proof of coverage, does the proof have to show your name on it? I submitted a photo of one of my parent's dental coverage cards but it only has my mom's name...I am covered by her employer for dental.

I really don't want to pay the health and dental plan fees and this opt-out is really confusing me.

Any information will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Get your mother's insurance company to write a formal letter stating your name and that you are covered under their plan.

Gimme all your life savings, and I'll give it back to you 3 months later. I'll do this all for free, just for you. No charge.

jonny123 01-06-2009 09:07 AM

Less people = higher cost.

Buying in bulk is cheaper than buying small packs.

in addition to CRS about less people = costs more, i believe that the upass program is also subsidized by parking costs on campus
