UBC offers two types of electrical engineering: tradition schedule(university style) and project integrated schedule(BCIT style). There are also many programs in electrical engineering such as nanotechnology, robotics, biomedical, electrical energy and renewable resources, etc... |
Hey guys, need some input here. I'm really undecided on going to ubc vs sfu. It's largely a matter of convenience and money. Here's my situation: I live near Production Way skytrain. So for me, the commute to sfu would take max 20 minutes. To go to ubc would add another 30+ minutes + stress. The entrance scholarship for 90% average to SFU is $1500 more than UBC. This would help me a lot because I'm mostly paying my whole way through school. I'm getting about 91/92 average among math, chem, physics 12. By no means am I a high class intellect, I just really enjoy the subject material. Would this affect my decision? Pretty confused.. any input would be appreciated. |
One more thing that might sway you to SFU: SFU Open Undergraduate Scholarship. After your Entrance Scholarship finishes its disbursements, if you achieve a CGPA of ~3.60, you're automatically eligible for the Open Scholarship which awards ~$110 per unit you take. So (in ENSC) at an average of 17 units per semester, that's roughly $1800 in scholarship funds. That's not an insignificant amount of money, if you're decent at studying. :) EDIT: Link: http://students.sfu.ca/financialaid/scholarships/ EDIT: Also, if you have some volunteer/community service experience, apply for SFU's Major Entrance Scholarships. If you can spin a good essay, you have a good chance... SFU gives 40 Gordon Shrum awards per year, $24,000 each. UBC's is by school nomination--if you can get a nomination from your school, apply for that too! |
