i understand that each kind of item has a different duty rate but i have never paid 18% duty on clothing! ever!!!

ive brought thousands of dollars of clothing across the border and never paid more than PST & GST. there was even a time i brought just over $2000 of clothing across and paid taxes at the border, again just PST & GST.

there arent really any deals on apple hardware. apple regulates the prices of its products across all of its resellers. even if you were to find a deal remember to add the current 30% exchange rate.

the only deals that i know of on apple hardware are refurbs. check them out, they usually come in excellent condition and with a full warranty... and you can always add applecare, i highly suggest you do, dont buy any mac without applecare! you will regret it if you do!!!

It depends on the customs agent you get and their mood. Sometimes they'll make you pay nothing, sometimes they'll just charge GST/PST well other times they'll rape you to the full extent of their taxing powers.

A good example is the last set of Poker chips I brought back I was charged GST/PST the set before that GST/PST and the extra tax cause they were made in China. Both sets came from the same place but I was charged different taxes, total crapshoot.

almost all the sport clothings (ie puma, nike ,adidas...etc) they sell in the premium outlet were not made in NA, so technically 30% tax and duty should be charged on those items too. i havn't heard them doing that at the douglas or pacific crossing.......i guess the guy at pt roberts didn't like me, he searched me and my car, made me empty my pockets, and told me to take off my shoes. he also kept my DL "accidentally" so i had to go back there the next day.

A couple of the guys over at Point Roberts are really by the book kinda guys while some of them are easier to deal with. I had my jiu jitsu gi shipped to TSB and the total value was $65. The guy at the window gave me the slip of paper and told me to go inside and pay.

I went inside and a younger looking caucasian guy looked at my invoice and told me he'd just have a look in my car to verify the contents. I gave him the keys and he searched the car. Came back 2 minutes later and told me I was good to go. I got into my car and kept wondering if he forgot to ask me to pay. I look over on the passenger seat and saw that he ripped that paper in half haha

All of the horror stories that you guys are telling are reasons why you should NOT send packages to Point Roberts. It seems like if you do then you are on your knees begging your government to search your car and charge you outrageous taxes...

Anyone looking for a place to ship goods coming from the US, set something up in Blaine and cross the border hassle free and mostly likely only pay PST & GST.

I use Hagens of Blaine, friendly folks and much more organized. It's just right after the Pacific Hwy border and only cost $2 per package. Plus, you can go down I-5 and shop around after instead of coming right back up from Point Roberts.
