Moratorium and Stylinred...quit ruining the thread of a great movie with your bickering!

stuff99 02-07-2009 07:38 PM

is this movie worth blu ray?

http://www.malmusic.com/detail.asp?P...=&prev=&lang=E

ienhz 02-07-2009 09:28 PM

It's a good movie, but not $45.99 good.

If it were priced like Blu-Rays at Futureshop (~$30) I would buy it.

stuff99 02-07-2009 09:56 PM

ill probably just get the dvd then.

i hate the stretched look with dvds on my hdtv

skyxx 02-09-2009 04:36 PM

I was quite surprised at the price when I was browsing around MAL's website. If it was around 35 I would definitely consider it. Now I'm contemplating whether to get it. :/

It's cause our dollar dropped. When I bought Red Cliff last summer on blu ray I got it for $35 CAD when our dollar was on par. Sucks now.

great movie!

SkinnyPupp 02-23-2009 07:01 AM

Just watched it on Blu-Ray, pretty damn good Kung Fu flick! I was actually not far from Fo Shan last week, I should have gone! Although almost anything related to pre-communism is likely to be gone completely, so I'm sure nobody was able to turn one of the schools into a museum or anything like that.

There were some really stupid parts, some inconsistencies, and downright errors due to the time it was supposed to have taken place, but overall a good action flick. Definitely better than Donnie Yen's last movie.

The one part that really bugged me was the epilogue text at the end. According to this movie, Japan surrendered unconditionally after being defeated in the war by China... Umm what? :lol

The tribute to Ip Man at the end was awesome though.

Alhough he left China not cause of the Japanese but cause of the Communists in real life lol. He was part of the Kumintang. This isn't a spoiler cause it's history.

Yup, and if anything they should have said: Japan surrendered after the war against the Republic of China. And after that, the country was in tatters, and the Communists took advantage and took over the country, successfully brainwashing the people to think otherwise.

m4k4v4li 03-02-2009 03:27 PM

good movie!
it is anti-jap in a HISTORICAL sense... really demonized the acts of the japanese during WW2 but the timeframe of the movie is based around that time so wtf do you expect?

Demonizing Japan is one thing. Glorifying Communist China is quite another. Are you sure you understood our posts?

I don't think he knows how to.

m4k4v4li 03-03-2009 02:42 PM

no I don't
how did it "glorify communist china" I think it correctly outlined the sentiment of the time frame, ip man went from living in a lavish mansion to barely getting by with enough to eat, alongside everyone else that was chinese who didnt sell themselves out to the japanese

IfUCare 03-03-2009 03:15 PM

am i missing something?
It's a movie, based on a person. No where does it say it's historically accurate. Also, due to censorship in china, if they wanted to play their movie there they'll have to accommodate to them. It's just a movie, watch it for what it is, i'm guessing you didn't questioned the accuracy of "DOOM" the movie. They just want to make a few bucks get off their back. If you want a history lesson, go read a history book, and not an action movie.
Oh yea, it's an action movie, to make it exciting they've got to make it somewhat unrealistic. To sell their movie, of course, it'll show him taking and beating 10 guys.
It would be pointless if the 10 guys jumped on him at the same and beat his ass up, the movie would be over.

SkinnyPupp 03-03-2009 09:21 PM

This is a perfect example of how people can be on completely different intellectual levels from one another.

stuff99 03-05-2009 09:25 AM

You guys are missing the point. We weren't bothered by the historical inaccuracies, but to state that China won the war at the end credits is another thing.

That's like the Germans saying Nazis never existed.

Sky_2000 03-13-2009 10:58 AM

China did not end the war itself. The war ended when the United States dropped their atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

BlackZRoadster 03-13-2009 11:11 AM

WHATEVER..it was a fucking movie, its for entertainment, real or fake, end of story

I don't mind that they took liberties with his life in the movie itself. But to try to rewrite history in what is supposed to be the "real life" epilogue of the movie just ruined it for me.

Either keep it fiction, or keep it real. Don't try to rewrite reality!
