insomniacRA 12-25-2008 01:48 PM

well, i'm also looking for a cheaper alternative too and i'm not a professional detailer so i dont really need a 70 dollar foam gun

How Much

911fanatic 01-18-2009 07:37 PM

You could get a pump sprayer ( around $30 at Home Depot ) and mix some APC at around 10 or 12:1 with water and just do it that way. You'll have to play with dilutions so as not to strip your wax off. If its warm out spray down one side of the car and rinse. Work your way around the car then wash as normal.

^^^By APC, do you mean All Purpose Cleaner?

911fanatic 01-18-2009 09:20 PM

Yes. I like Autoglym Powermax3. If you can find it, Megs APC is also very good as is P21S Total Autowash, albeit expensive in comparison to the other two.

i got myself a foamgun from autogeek.net, pretty good investment if you want a swirl free car

MarkyMark 01-19-2009 12:24 PM

Do you have it hooked up to a compressor or just a hose?

then one that i am using only requires hooking it up to a regular garden hose, the ones that hook up to a compressor is called a foam cannon/lance.

the foam gun gives a more runny soap that doesn't sit on the car very long, the foam cannon on the other hand gives the whole car a clingy foam. i bought the foam gun because i didn't want to go through the hassle of hooking up my pressure washer everytime i wash my car because i wash the cars at least once a week.

What kind of foam are you using? Sometimes if you add a very high foaming soap like Poorboys Super Slick and Suds, it will help your cleaner cling to the paint longer.

I m just using meguiars' car wash, another factor regarding the foam sliding off would probably be the relatively fresh wax that was applied around two months ago.
