Ways to find Dead Pixels on LCD?

I just bought a LCD Monitor and I'm trying to figure out if my LCD has any dead pixels since they'll exchange it until I get a perfect LCD(14 days only) cause Samsung needs you to have 10 before they'll exchange it for you.

Any tips or advice?

Thx!

Find a white picture and full-screen that puppy. Then stare at the screen, scanning the pixels, until you go blind.

Hide your icons, hide the taskbar, remove your wallpaper, and change your background colors - white and black works.

trust me youll know when you see dead pixels. they dont refresh or they are white. my laptop had a pixel that was stuck green.

if the picture looks fine, then dont worry about dead pixels

try different colours with fullscreen pics

google something like 'dead pixel test' or something. it will run a flash program that will go thru a range of full screen colours that you can stare at until you fall over in a seizure

Does Samsung actually cover dead pixels? I thought they don't. Also, is it worth purchasing the extended warranty from futureshop/bestbuy for 50 or whatever?

I believe most places won't replace your LCD unless there are more than 3-5
dead pixels on the screen. I bought 7 LCDs in the past 5 years, every sales
told me the factory warranty won't cover one or two dead pixels on the
screen.

lol found this on google

^^ lol sucks to be that guy.

as for manufacturers' dead pixel policies, they're usually some odd pattern- like "5 dead pixels within a square inch" or "at least 11 pixels in a corner" and even those go into further detail that will pretty much not include your situation.

if it's within 14 days, replace it via exchange. it's not very often in my experience that dead pixels occur right after that time without physical damage and what not. but everyone has different experiences.

I remember there was a broken LCD wallpaper video somewhere and the guy freaked out :lol

I think if you buy a monitor from NCIX, you can purchase a "dead pixel warranty" that basically allows you to take it back if you find any dead pixels within 30 days. It was $12.99 when I bought my bro's Samsung monitor last year.

^ I was just referring to the warranty that is given to you for free. NCIX has a restocking fee for open box returns, and their RMA service isn't always the fastest. I would almost say that the dead pixel policy would be a good buy especially since NCIX offers such low prices to begin with.

my eyes are like DEAD after staring at the screen for so long and in so many different colors =/

my personal test, is to use a program that I originally got to configure my screen, it runs fullscreen and the one setting lets you shuffle through all the main colours, a dead pixel stands out pretty good after going through them all.

nabs 01-03-2009 09:31 PM

dead pixels can appear in any primary colors. make ur entire screen Black then White then Red then Green and then Blue. they should be noticable.

apple has by far teh worse dead pixel policy
