2009 World Junior Hockey

So, no posts on this yet?

Canada current up 7-0 on Kazakhstan... middle of the second period and we've only given up two shots(!!!), had 28, and taken no penalties. Ouch.

[borat accent] dont fuck with kazakhstan [/borat accent]

Soundy 12-28-2008 12:58 PM

Shots 42-10, score 9-0, and we're not even done the second period...

dinamix 12-28-2008 01:19 PM

no mercy rule

Soundy 12-28-2008 01:32 PM

Total goals can be important in a tiebreaker situation, so... no.

Glad someone finally made a thread about this.

Germany today, but I really can't wait until we go up against the likes of Russia, Sweden or USA.

SumAznGuy 12-29-2008 03:58 PM

I don't understand why teams like Kazakhstan and Latvia are still in this tournament. Every year they are the weakest teams in the tournament.

aznrsx1979 12-29-2008 04:05 PM

I think that was the most goals in a shutout for Canada at the World Jr's ever. Outscoring their opponents 23-1. Good start so far. Should have no problem with Germany, just got to wait to see how they do against the US now.

chr1s 12-29-2008 05:25 PM

greendb7 01-01-2009 12:21 PM

I love the world juniors so much, probably my favourite hockey to watch over cup finals, etc asides from maybe Olympics and stuff
so much pride and heart from the young kids, and it's great hockey cuz they're all still trying to prove themselves, but in the NHL and stuff a lot of players half ass it cuz they've already made it

RRxtar 01-03-2009 06:19 PM

jesus christ i think i peed a little

mickz 01-03-2009 07:32 PM

I am surprised Canada came out on top today since the Russians played a better game. Tokarski has looked shaky at times during this tournament and I am very unimpressed with Hickey's performance in today's game as well as the game against the Americans. He's doesn't make good decisions with the puck and he's often caught deep in the offensive zone.

On the other hand I do like the play of PK Subban. His skating style looks pretty disgusting but man can this guy carry the puck into the zone. His signature spin move is an added bonus to watch.

m3thods 01-03-2009 09:39 PM

Team Canada wasn't the better team today. Eberle hid the fact that he gave up the puck a million times with 3 goals (1 in the SO). And Subban, very uncharacteristic. Everyone looked sluggish and slower than the Russians, who played an extra game.

However, WOW. It really pays off to watch right until the end, because I almost broke my plate when they scored the tying goal. As another poster said, it's easy to fall for the WJC because of the heart and soul that go into every game- they all have something to prove and are playing to make it to the NHL, or for the love of the game. Games are also faster and much more physical than your normal NHL game. Definitely looking forward to the finals against Sweden, as they are one tough team to beat.

Went to the Giants game tonight... they had this game playing on the jumbotron and all the TVs around the concourse. Then they cut to the in-house stuff ("keys to the game" video) when the play stopped with a little over a minute to go, to a loud chorus of boos. Suddenly they cut back in the middle of the video for the replays of the tying goal (to many cheers), then restarted the video and continued on into the game. They announced when OT was over and it was going to the shootout... then a few minutes later a bunch of cheers came up from up by the doors, and as soon as play stopped again, they announced the win (to thunderous applause) and replayed the last game-winning save and the team mobbing the ice.
