^ lol that is true..

talula 01-01-2009 10:10 PM

depends on ur phone plan....mine is unlimited incoming so i dont get charged for incoming international calls

03aspec 01-02-2009 10:11 AM

are you sure about that? i have heard a lot of people that say they have UNLIMITED incoming but its only local, once they see the bill they end up shitting a brick. always read the fine print......

Huh, I thought it was in certain countries you wouldn't get charged for accepting long-d calls but others you do...and we're part of the first. I forget though, some facts would be good to know.

03aspec 01-02-2009 12:31 PM

really? this is canada and the cellular providers are a joke, so i would think that they are going to charge you unless you have a special plan that says otherwise.

As long as you are in your local area..which for most of us is the gvrd..then receiving any calls will not have extra charges..whether its long distance or not..it will only take away airtime in your plan, so if u have unlimited incoming then talk all u want, if its long distance then the person calling u would be paying the charges..once u leave ur local area then its a different ballgame

I phoned Rogers last week about this cause I have a friend travelling in Europe. If you are still in the GVRD and pick up the call from them (overseas), you will NOT get charged. If you phone them and still dialing the same 604/778 number and they pick up, they get charged for accepting your call.

I'm still going to wait for the next bill cycle to see if that CSR was right...

^ Good to know, thanks!

positive...ive been receiving long distant phone calls for the past 2 years and ive never had to pay extra

aznrsx1979 01-03-2009 04:29 AM

yeah i'm with fido and the only time i've had to pay additional fees is when i'm roaming. i've never been charged for accepting long distance in the local area.

vancitylove 01-03-2009 08:15 AM

when you say accepting a call, do you mean accepting a collect call or just answering the phone?

03aspec 01-03-2009 11:31 AM

well then, this is good info.

iwantaskyline 01-03-2009 10:57 PM

thanks, thats the info i needed. gf in taiwan been calling me, been worried if i was gona have a big ass bill next month.

nipples 01-04-2009 04:38 PM

.....i dont think receiving LD calls have ever been charged! And i think it's like that for almost all places. it's the call initiator that incurs charges....well...unless it's a collect call.

this is correct..and u can still call local #s and be charged local even if the other person is overseas..only the other person is charged with roaming fees..

and a side note..receiving text messages is free worldwide! =D
