Another young hockey player dies. This time from fighting Another young player bites the dust. However, this time it was from fighting. Whitby Dunlops defenceman Don Sanderson died early Friday morning at Hamilton General Hospital. He passed away due to head trauma suffered in a fight during a senior hockey game on December 12th in Brantford, Ontario. He had been in a coma and on life support since undergoing brain surgery on December 13th. Sanderson, a student at York University, was only 21-years-old. The native of Port Perry, Ontario got into a fight with Corey Fulton of the Brantford Blast in the third period of the game on December 12th. According to witnesses, Sanderson's helmet came off during the fight and both players fell to the ice, with Sanderson's head striking the ice surface. Sanderson played in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League for the Ajax Attack and Trenton Sting. http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/st...=topStory_main |

I feel sad for the family. I hope this doesn't have an effect on fighting however. It happened once, please don't ban fighting. |
It's part of the game, but it is a shame that it had to go down this way. I bet that Corey guy is feeling really shitty right about now. RIP. |
it's not his fault... you ever watch an NHL game? most of the time they TAKE their helmets off and go at it, ever seen them wrestle and come down together? i'm suprised this doesn't happen more |

Key word is SECURE. I play almost on a daily basis and people don't understand how many players out there wear their helmet loose. Some don't even care about the neck strap at all. Some players are just overconfident with their skill that they don`t take safety seriously. |
Securing the helmet is a good idea, but the other problem now is the NHL also has an additional penalty for fighting, if the player has a visor and the helmet isn't taken off, the instigator gets an additonal penalty. Or something along those lines, it was mentioned on Sportsnet and TSN. |
But I disagree this has anything to do with fighting in particular. If anything, they should crack down on inproperly worn helmets. The head trauma could've been caused by anything, like falling during a regular shift and his helmet falling off because it was worn inproperly. RIP to the guy and his family none the less |
rip |
Or just simply punish players that start fights? |
rip |
here comes the outcry to ban fighting in hockey again like how in 100 years and several millions of games of ogranized hockey, one girl died from getting hit with a puck and now there are nets around the ends of the arena |

Taking fighting away from hockey is gay. I doubt that will ever happen, like many have said before, it's simply part of the game. |
What was he doing in a senior game? |

Hockey fights are ghey anyways. If I want to see a fight, I'll watch boxing/ MMA/ go to the bar. |

Huge hits though, now thats more entertaining and actually does more damage than the fight itself. |
