| 2 Different HDMI cables giving me 2 different sets of settings
I didn't have an hdmi cable when i bought my ps3, so i borrowed my brother in law's rocketfish hdmi cable, as he currently didn't have any use for it.
Everything is ok - my ps3 detected resolutions of 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p.
This morning, i installed another hdmi cable given to me by a friend, as i had no intention of keeping the rocketfish cable. The display on my tv never came up. I googled for an answer and users from other online communities had said to hold down on the power button for about 10 seconds upon startup (to refresh the display or something?). I did that, but with the new cable, it would only automatically detect 480p (i even tried restoring my factory settings with this new cable).
I got frustrated and installed the rocketfish cable again, and without a doubt, it detects 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p.
Is it me, or is there something seriously wrong here?

I would check the new cable. There might be a bent pin at the connectors or somewhere in the cable there is a defect.
Did it ever work for your friend?
My friend had a similar problem where there was no display on the tv from the PS3. Turns out one of the connectors was slightly bent.

u might want to check if ur "new" hdmi cable is v1.3 some cheap ass cables such as ones bought from NCIX does not support 1080P. u are having the same problem i'm having with my PS3. i used my xbox hdmi cable all along, and then i went to NCIX and bought a cheapy HDMI cable, once i used the cheap NCIX hdmi cable on my ps3, it wouldnt work, and once i switch it back to the xbox hdmi cable, it works flawless.

I've never had a problem using "cheap" or "high end" hdmi cable, I prefer the cheap ones are there is no difference. Not too sure why it isnt displaying when u switched cables

^ there are cheap bad ones and cheap good ones. catch is, it either supports HDMI 1.3 or it doesnt, and usually cheap cables dont list on their packaging if they support 1.3 or not.
