automatic cleaning litter box I am going to be away for 2 months on a trip. I got my roomate to help take care of the cat, but ,,, he is lazy, and doesnt like scooping cat poo. I was wondering where is the cheapest place in the lower mainland to buy those automatic self cleaning litter boxes? I saw petcetera had one for 99.99, but was wondering if anyone know a place that has cheaper one? |
i cant help you much because mines "manual" but find good reviews on one first. otherwise your buddy might get pissed if it breaks down during the 2 mths |
you can get the stacking boxes that you lift the top one, in which the clumps stay in and the rest gets sifted to the next box. Then you dump the clumps and put that box on the bottom. These work really well as long as you are using a fine clumping litter. This way your roomate won't have to scoop. I have found that some of the automatic don't work that well. That and some cats get scared by the noise when they leave the box, and causing them to not want to use the litter box. Van Ness makes a sifting litter box. Most smaller pet stores should be able to bring them in if they don't already carry them. They are alot cheaper then the automatic cleaning litter boxes. |
I second what Lil_Bastrd said. I think the stacking boxes would work really well--it's fast and your roommate won't really have to manually scoop. I'm not sure if the automatic litter boxes can go two months without being cleaned out? I've read good reviews on the Roll'n Clean litter box, which I think Tisol carries, but I can't remember how much they're selling for: http://www.moderncat.net/2008/11/13/...er-litter-box/ Online is about $30 USD though: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KBZBES?ie=UTF8 |
if you do decide to get a automatic litterbox i dont suggest littermaid, those broke within 3 months for me, i cleaned the whole thing out and the stupid rake just keeps going back and forth nonstop if you do get one and plan to use it after you come back put some money into them. dont be cheap and get littermaid like me...well it was at halfprice at london drugs for $50 so i had to =] |

haha automated = total lazymans work, expect the stupid littermaid which london drugs sells for 59.99 or 69 is just a piece of shit and ends up that you do just as much as manual litterbox |
I have had both the stacking litter boxes and the autocleaning litter box and honestly they both were useless. I found with the stacking box that it always had chunks of litter sticking to the sifter tray (which means your cleaning it anyways), and I found unless the litter was actually new it didn't sift well at all. And with the autocleaning box, it stopped working after like 3 weeks. The one I had was bought at Petcetera and you had to hit the button to activate the arm. Well unless you hit the button after every time they crap in there, the arm wasn't strong enough to lift the crap out so it would just click and I would end up having to clean it again. Basically after all the trial and error I found the best method was the old fashion method of me doing it daily and replacing the entire litter every couple of weeks to make sure it scooped easily. Just my experience, others might have had a different experience. |
