Quick Guitar Restringing Q

So yeah, I'm restringing the high E (1st string) because I broke it. This is my first time restringing, so I'm having quite a bit of difficulty when I insert the ball end of the string and have to replug the hole with the peg. No matter how I insert the string or the peg, the peg is always loose and easily pops out.

I have no idea what I'm suppose to do.

Hold the peg down with your finger while you retighten the string. After you get a little tension on it, the peg will wedge in and hold itself in place. Tada!

not really, if u know what ur doing it will take only mintues, i wouldnt pay anyone to do that,
if ur still having trouble there are prob guides online or guitar forums,
never restringed and acoustic before only electrics

I got my buddy to do it, I broke two strings doing it :o

The peg was loose only until he tied the string into the tuning port. At first I thought my guitar was broken, lol.

lol
eh who cares if u broke a couple strings lol good thing it wasnt 2 bass strings those are pricey

all in all restringing a guitar can be a btich sometimes

you should probably just change them all.. and while all the strings are off.. you can wipe the frets down with a damp cloth, then make sure the frets are 100% dry before you restring.

I bought a nice bone saddle and ebony bridge pins for my acoustic, need to put them in and restring it. I haven't tried restringing it by myself, but I got to try.

Funny, I broke my high-E one week into getting my metal-stringed acoutsic. Now I've had it for 2+ years, and I haven't had to replace any strings yet. (knock on wood)

You should try to clean the strings. after about 6 months of solid play, you can get some pretty gross dead skin stuck to the bottom of some of the strings.

Does anyone here also play WITHOUT a pick?

You shouldn't remove all of the string at once. The neck is designed to be tightened by the strings, if you remove all of them it will flex out of shape. Best way to do it is 1 or 2 string at a time while wiping down.

Damn, 2 years without changing strings? I change mine at least 3 times a year. My guitar sounds so much better with fresh strings!

BTW, Sandor, I never play with a pick. Most of the music I play sounds better without a pick.

Rich Sandor 01-15-2009 12:18 AM

Hmm. Maybe I should change the strings just because it's been so long... The guitar is 100% in tune according to my digital tuner, but it just doesn't sound as good as it used to. Maybe it's because of the age of the strings afterall.

I actually cannot play with a pick. If I try, it sounds like ass. The only downside is sometimes my thumb actually gets sore on the side.

What I really want is a Capo.
